Louisiana Team Handles Serious Crash Involving Extrication

James E. LeBlanc
Firehouse.com User-Submitted Photostory

On Friday May 11 at 4:52 pm Ascension Parish Rescue Team II along with the 7th. Dist. Fire Department were dispatched to Roddy Road and Shadow Creek Road for a serious vehicle accident involving extrication.

The 7th. Dist. Fire Department incident commander arrived on scene to find a 1999 Chevy Corvette up side down with a person trapped. The vehicle had hit a concrete culvert.

Rescue Team II members from the St. Amant, Galvez-Lake and 7th. Dist. Fire Departments set up for an intensive extrication. Hydraulic spreaders, cutters and rams were used in the operation. The driver of the Corvette was extricated within 18 minutes, and was flown by Acadian Ambulance Air Med to a Baton Rouge facility. At the time of this report, the injuries to the local resident were very serious.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation.

Looks like Z06 wheels, but I can't tell if it was a Z06 or not. Definitely not the proper way to park a vette. OUCH!

I agree. Horrendous. Hope it was not the result of foolishness - but then it was a solo accident - and having seen some of the videos on VetteTube and the things some idiots do on public highways, it seems some people just still don't get it - "take it to the track" if you want to go fast!

Also, I can see no evidence of a roof, can you? - could this be a convertible? If so, I have a very similar one (Z06 style wheels too) and no way can I ever contemplate being inside it if it was up-side-down... even with the the top up, there's basically nothing but your head and the windshield... I wonder when/if GM will ever get around to adding some roll protection to convertible Corvettes?

5th Gen Z06 wasn't introduced until '01 with 385 hp. '02 and subsequent 5th gen Z06 made 405 hp.

This car is not a Z06.

I'm still trying to figure out why any of you are debating whether or not it's a Z06.

Are you serious?

Really, what difference does it make? I hope the driver is OK.

Gee guys, come on...

There was never a "debate" over the Z06 question. I'm sorry I started this. I was just making a statement basically, that it had Z06 wheels, but I wasn't sure if it was a Z06. It has been stated (more than once) that it was NOT a Z06.

I think we have beaten this enough.

I still think that, that was a funny way to park a corvette, and I hope who ever parked it that way is OK, and is able to park corvettes a little better in the future.

I, too, didn't find any humor in some of the posts re: that collision. Let's just hope that the driver gets through this and comes back to drive another Corvette. Like I say at work, "any collision is a good one if the occupants of the vehicle are ok. The vehicle can be repaired or replaced".

Scary for sure; just hope the driver is alright is the main thing for sure!

This should be a reminder that even Corvettes can't defy the laws of physics.
