Which of the last two weekends in october does anyone have a preference for?

Donna's birthday is the 16th but i do not know if we or she is going, she has not made up her mind;she had no fun last time which is not a news flash. As soon as Donna says one way or the other i will post.

I know it wasn't fun for a few people but we can do better next time. Most new people to the Dragon are not prepared and maybe those of us that have done the a few times should really let other know what can happen

I think Charlie should address the issue.

Donna won't be alone. Paula will have BudMan with her so she will be setting at the camp most of the time.

Rascal, Rosie and I talked about the dragon on the way home from CruiseFest, we have decided that we are going to drive the Vette down and take at least one day of the vacation to "do the Dragon".

Now this unfortunately isn't going to be either of the dates you have talked about in this thread, but we are going to plan on doing it while we are in Tennessee the first week of August.

Sorry if this is seen as a Hijack, but we talked to Rascal at the CruiseFest....where were the rest of you? :D

Charlie,
I haven't been on in a few weeks. The last week in October should yield the best Fall colors viewing. That will also cause the biggest crowds and reservations will be limited.

I'm game either way. Bought new front and rear sway bars for the 63 and it handles almost as well as the 03. Can't wait to see everyone. I'll be there this weekend and will miss everyone.

Have a great 4th. Gotta go.

Just to update everyone...I haven't dropped the ball on this, but I also haven't nailed down the weekend for the fall run, which will be one of the last two weekends in october. I also haven't nailed down the hotel, Fontana Village for whatever reason has been being a headache about working with me on this.;shrug I'm having flashbacks to the confusion of asking for seperate checks at dinner only somehow worse and I feel like over the phone they find it easy to give people the run around about wanting a number of rooms blocked off. I know some of you were wanting to stay there though so I'm still trying to get something done with them, although if they don't cooperate very soon, we may end up back at the holiday inn we stayed at in the spring.

We *might* be able to make the August run in addition to the October run.
As far as Fontana goes... sounds like they want to make it hard. I'm also remembering that they charged my credit card the moment I made the reservation last year :(

I was wondering if it might be fun to get a group of cabins up in the pigeon forge area? Either that or the Holiday Inn, either one works for me.

Hey Charlie,

6-Shooter stayed at Fontana in a cabin in June. He and Kerri said that it was horrible!!! The air didn't work so they opened the windows but the screens weren't the correct size for the windows so they had to stuff towels in the cracks to keep bugs out, the carpet was so dirty that their feet would stick to it when they walked on it, the stove was so bad that they couldn't even cook on the stove top. They complained at the lodge and got their money back.

I'm with Tammy, is there any place around Pigeon Forge or are those places too expensive?

We just spent 4 nights at the Fontana and it left a lot to be desired. It's pretty country and the people are very nice but the cons outweighed the pros. ;shrug

Personally, I enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Alcoa. And we decided the next time we go back without the group that's where we'll make reservations.

The rooms were nice and comfortable, parking areas convenient and well lit, LOTS of places to eat nearby, wireless access in your room... etc.

The drawback of course is no place for a cookout... but there may be a city park or picnic area nearby where we could grill burgers or such.

I don't know much about the Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg areas.

Holiday Inn Express in Alcoa works for us.

We stayed a night in Pigeon Forge last Oct on our way to the Dragon Run.
Very crowded and busy. Difficult to get around in and everything packed
right together. :(

We did not make the spring run, but I would think a place down in that
area like where you all stayed, would be more conducive to a relaxed
social atmosphere and make for more fun than up in the Forge. I do
hope a date comes soon so I can get my time off in and approved. :D

I was actually on the phone with the Holiday Inn in Alcoa as you were posting this...lol.

Plan to check into the hotel thursday october 18th (or meet us early friday morning)...friday and saturday driving around in circles, sunday the 21st breakfast and hitting the road home...unless you're going home extremely early in the morning, in which case...sorry, but I doubt I'ma be having a good bye breakfast with you if it's still moonlight outside when you're leaving!

I've spoke with the Alcoa hotel and at the moment they have plenty of availability, but I'll have to call back monday morning to speak with a manager to get us a group rate of some kind.

The man that I talked to also said that they have in the past set up a car washing spot with a hose for car clubs before, although if the drought is still going on he's not sure if they'd be able to do that...so it's a possibility, but not definite. As Steve mentioned though, there's a car wash close by as well.

Go ahead and start making plans for that weekend and you know where we're staying, I'll have something posted, probably start a new thread that I'll keep the first post updated with any updated info and let you know what the group rate should be and you'll be able to call and make reservations then.

How about Corvettes against cancer October 20th rather than the Dragon. That way I won't spill my beer and others won't :puke

I'm really not trying to rain on this event. but yesterday a group of 40 cars made the Dragon Run and just before they left, they sent out this out to folks.

Don't forget there's also T-Shirts you can order through Zazzle for the trip if you're interested...just bumped that thread up as it'd seemed to have gotten lost for awhile...lol.

Great design and terrific colors for the dragon! Kudos for the work!
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

Thanks!

And thanks as well for the tip about the leo's being such a pain, I've already been trying to think of several alternate route's that will skip the dragon during the daytime when they're there the worst, hopefully they'll have chilled out by then.

To be honest, I really don't know. ;shrug

I'll see what I can find out though if one of the other TN natives doesn't speak up with an answer.
