John.....thanks for getting this thread started again this year. Count me in. I've already reserved my room at Super 8 where I should have been last year.
To others on the forum, this is a huge corvette event and John makes it possible for CAC to have a central and very convenient place to park and hang out. I showed up last year by myself and not knowing anyone. Within an hour I had twenty new friends and was listening to side-pipe installations and learning things about my LT4 that I'd never known otherwise (thanks LT4 Man / Craig). This year I'm driving up from Memphis on Thursday and John, I hope I'm there to help you set up the tent and whatever else needs doing. Did I read about cooking out at the Super 8 on Friday night?
For anyone considering going for the first time, make hotel reservations now! It's no fun to be 40 miles away as I was last year. The Mid America site has a full list of hotels. And patronize MAM with your accessories business whenever possible. Mike Yeager puts on a huge event for us with FunFest. I try to return the favor every time I need something.
See you in Sept.
I'm going to try again this year to make it. Unfortunately, it always seems I get pretty busy around that time with contractors trying to get work done before winter sets in.
Mark me down as a definite maybe. :D

Off topic, but is anyone going to NCM's C4 event this weekend at Bowling Green?
I'll be there Friday early and am staying through Sat. afternoon. My cell is 901-233-9260 if anyone from this thread would like to have some cold ones Friday night. Beer is on me as long as my cooler holds out.

:W If it doesn't exist I've really lost my mind. I could have sworn I spent last weekend cleaning, sanding, and painting brackets, pulleys, and valve covers.
Are you going to bring the tent you purchased last year? I thought about buying one this year. I figured it would be nice to have, but then I remembered it didn't really fit in the car. What did you think of it?
As for club recognition, it might not hurt to do a little signage and maybe some cards with the web address. I may ask Rob about it.

Suzy and I were discussing the tent today. We love it and was actually thinking about buying another this year if they have the same deal on the same tent. There wil be times here when it would be nice to have two of them. It really does not fit in the car very well. It was all I could do to get it in with no passenger. I have not been up there since I last saw you, I usually am there at least once a month. A nice sign would be good. I will try and get us another premium space this year. It will involve a trip up there early again but it was worth it.

Yeah, the space was perfect. Some groups got shuffled to the north 40 while CAC was on the front row. CJ5Nutz, what was the deal on the tent last year?

They offered to sell anyone in a club a tent at a reduced price. I bought the tent last year for the CAC and ultimately for myself. They put it up in our space and had it ready for us with the owners name on a tag inside. Then after the event was over, just take down the tent and take it home. I am thinking seriously about getting another one , if it is the same deal and the same tent.
I will try and get there a day or so early and talk to the guys doing the set up and see if we can get a great space again. You saw where the "other forum" was parked... They had a lonnnng walk just to get to us. :L

John's right about this. Thanks to his efforts, we (and the official CAC tent) were on the front row of some of the best parking of the weekend. It makes a huge difference in the whole experience. Heck, we were practically VIP.

Remember me next year I want to try and make it. Do you all caravan down and meet up somewhere on the way? Just a crazy year for me, my daughters getting married, putting my house on the market for sell, looking for the right piece of dirt to build my last garage on, or I mean house (in the even my wife is listening) ;LOL

Not much caravaning for me,:chuckle My house in Illinois is about an hour southwest of Mid America but the sight of thousands of Corvettes all lined up down the road for as far as the eye can see coming in for three days is one devil of a sight. Now thats a caravan.
I have been to hundreds and hundreds of shows and cruise ins over the last 30 some years. National and local shows all over the country and let me tell you, this is the one to come to.
No offense to anyone:ohnoes but this is not a Bloomington or a Carlisle type thing. This is a 3 day party and gathering of the cream of the crop of Corvettes. People and Corvettes from all over the country, not there to get an award or for bragging rights but just to have a great time at a premier event and enjoy the company of the people that own them.
Who else but Mike would give a free Three Dog Night concert on Saturday night just to say thank you to his customers for their business over the last year.:upthumbs
No question as to where I buy my Corvette parts and accessories.
:wBill, I am in the process of building an 8 car garage myself. 1600 ft of pure doghouse for me.:D I am so excited just to get a call from the builder asking a question. :L They are supposed to break ground this month. :upthumbs
Everyone that can , if only for a day or a couple hours come out and show your support for the CAC . We will have an area hopefully a great spot again with a tent to get out of the sun and/or rain and plenty of handshakes and smiles to go around.
Everyone don't forget you also get to see the elusive 82 Claret that no one has ever seen before except in photos , right John ! :L
Speaking of John, don't you have something else to add to your list of Corvettes? :upthumbs

I do plan on making the trip one of these years, it sounds awesome. Now back to the garage or should I say house that I am planning; well let me call it a garage with a house attached. The plans are maybe a large pole barn but not metal, and will use studs not poles; metal siding is so exspensive; with enough room for 6 to 8 cars, lift, wash bay area and a 2 bedroom 2 bath appartment in one end is what I have in mind but for my wifes benifit I will refer to it as an attached house. Around 4 bays, 2 cars deep with one drive through bay between the house and garage area. Wouldn't mind seeing some of your plans, I have not locked into a design for sure yet. I even toyed around with a service pit in one of the bays but I am not sure I want to deal with sump pump and etc. for this, I would also want a retractable cover for it but may not put one of these in :confused I do want an extra room in the garage for an office/spare bedroom with attached bathroom here too. Maybe even a kitchenette area in the garage. I kind of what to be self contained here don't ya see :chuckle
I just have a rough plan/drawing/and ideas in my mind :ohnoes at this time not to scale or anything for sure yet.
Sure would like to make the trip to IL this year but not in the cards.
Take care,
Bill :w

We've not done any caravans in the past, but I'd be open to the idea if anyone else in the area had a similar departure time planned. Fortunately, club parking allows us to park together regardless of when we arrive.
Our hotel reservations have also started to cluster at the Super 8 one exit west of Mid America.
Good luck selling the house. The market around hear is pretty ugly at the moment.

Not me. Just ask Linda. She'll tell ya who that one belongs to. She even claimed the key-chain my keys have been on for years because it had a C4 emblem on it. ;help
Seriously though. Yes we did add another member to the family. It's a light bronze metallic 84 coupe. It will be Linda's daily driver spring through fall.
I pretty much had to add another DD to the mix. Our trucks are getting so long in the tooth a backup was a must. After looking at a few used cars, nothing seamed to make as much sense as a well maintained C4. They're affordable at the moment, well built, get decent mileage, and will hold resell or possibly increase in value. Besides, who knew an 84 was so much fun to drive. We're really happy with it.

I haven't found that perfect piece of dirt to build on yet so I am not in a big hurry selling my house. The market does suck but as I said I'm not in all that big of a hurry. Hopefully in the next year I will have a firm plan. When your dream garage is in the building process I wouldn't mind looking at pictures and getting some ideas for mine. I am going to for sure have on drive through bay between the house and garage two cars deep, this would be where I park the daily drivers. I have a rough plan at this point and will adjust as I get closer to building. This is just something I want to get done before I retire so I can have a place to pursue my passion of working on and maybe selling a few Vettes. I would like to restore and older Vette on the side too!
Good luck, sure wish I could make it to Mid Ameria this year but just not going to work. Have fun, be safe and enjoy the trip and the Fun Fest.

That is about right these days; a lot of contractors just don't care about much other than getting PAID! Then after you pay them they are no where to be found :mad
I know a guy that built a new house 4 or 5 years ago that hired an attorney to over see the building from start to finish and he told me it was the best money he ever spent. He had a house build quite a few years before that he almost killed the contractor so this time so he wouldn't be charged with :mad murder he thought it best to have his attroney over see the building process and never even had contact with the contractor. He said he had some difficulties getting a contractor to work under these conditions ;shrug but thought too this weeded out the flakes that wanted to hide everything and the only time he could count on them was when they wanted paid during the process.
I am pretty demanding too but I really only want what's fair and right, after all I am the one that is going to live in it and with it!
Not looking forward :ohnoes to this process either :ugh

John,
Please let me know if you need anything at all. I will be near Effingham on Thursday. Any last minute item (ie. bar counter, bar stools, alcohol, mixers, straws, glasses etc......OH DARN! I got confused!) This is not Blender Wars! ;LOL Oh well.
The offer still stands. If you need any last minute things, please let me know.

All,
The attached pdf file contains the parking pass you need to print out and bring to Funfest with you. You need to place a copy of this on your dash prior to entering Gate 5 so that the parking attendants will know how to direct you.
If you can't read a pdf file, you probably need to download Adobe's reader from the web. If all else fails, PM me and I can e-mail it to you in another format.
Some additional details are included in the attached text file. I have a copy of the Effingham map Nancy refers to. However, the file is too large to post here. If you would like a copy, PM your e-mail address to me and I'll sent it.
Regards,
John G.

This was posted on another site today.. Hope it helps someone .
For what it's worth, Newton Illinois's River Park Motel (618) 783-2327 has single rooms Friday night for......$27.00......found them on www.jaspercountytourism.com (http://www.jaspercountytourism.com/) also on www.southeastillinois.com (http://www.southeastillinois.com/) . I think the towns of Olney and Robinson also have motels w/rooms available. Not sure what 27 bucks will buy these days, but it's only 24 miles from Effingham on Rte 33.

Let's just say that the brief history of the L83 will be well represented.;)
How did Suzy's hood come out? If I remember correctly that was the only thing on the exterior of that car that needed a little attention. I'll bet it looks great now.

How did Suzy's hood come out?
Its red ! ;LOL If you do see the slight color difference, :mad please do not mention it to her. It could be fatal. All in all it turned out good, its slick but when the sun hits it just right the car goes one color and the hood another. She doesn't see it and I hope she doesn't until I can get it repainted ... again... It wasn't the painters fault, he did awesome on it. This one can be blamed on NAPA in Highland Illinois. I took the car to them and told them it had to be correct and take their time. He came out and shot the hood with his little camera and went back in and that was it.... Its a shade off. Any other time I have had paint matched , they do the same but then bring out a color sample and see if it is correct. This guy was a little cocky and said ' It will be right " WRONG !
Any way, I look forward to seeing the new addition to the family and if you need help polishing, Greg is just over to the left of you a few miles. :L
I am going up to Mid America maybe tomorrow or Tuesday now to pick up a marker light assy. if they have it in stock. She doesn't want to wait until the weeekend to get it. :bash

Hi Guys,We just got home a while ago. Still recovering from the drive. Got stuck in a nasty traffic jam on I70 cause by an import or maybe it was a Ford probe (it was hard to tell) that burned pretty much to the ground. It was another great Funfest weekend for us. We always look forward to meeting a few new CAC members and renewing friendships with others that we only get to see once or twice a year. The CAC group had a nice cohesive club feel to it this year. Of course everyone explores the grounds making their own adventures, but they always returned to home base under the CAC tents to share them with the rest of us. We never lacked for conversation. Speaking of adventures; Here's a couple of ours. 1) Linda and I always seem to meet fun and interesting people both on and off the Mid America grounds. This year we discovered that about half the people in our hotel belonged to a very active club based just south of us in Indianapolis. We got to know them Saterday evening and they were alot of fun. We're going to join their club next month. 2) Linda's enjoys driving her C4 so much that she wants to learn all about it. No beeding class or fasion show for her this year. She was dragging me off to tech seminars. She even attended one without me. I hope everyone enjoyed Funfest as much as we did and plans to attend again. Mid America has been very good to our group the past two years and we're already on the club parking list for 2008.

We got a surprise today. Just before leaving Funfest we decided to pull a little cash from the ATM on grounds. I got home and had a message on my answering machine from the bank about some transactions in question,so I returned the call as I checked my account from my computer. It seems at the same time that I was at Funfest, I must have been in Mexico because I spent a small fortune down there.:mad My bank account has been emptied and I really hope the system works because I have no choice but to give it a try. Thanks D!
We will be here Saturday the 13th for the Classic Corvette Reunion unless the lady of the house changes my mind.
Or if like Shooter says. "its raining". We already paid $140.00 for the event Saturday and have a jacuzzi suite waiting for us, we probably will be there.
Come on down and see all the Classics. The rumor mill has it that this will be the last year they have this due to lack of participation.

(John's quote......)
I hope everyone enjoyed Funfest as much as we did and plans to attend again. Mid America has been very good to our group the past two years and we're already on the club parking list for 2008.
Hey John.......
The weather's getting nice and I'm starting to count down to FunFest '08. I've enjoyed your diligent administration of the CAC accomodations the past two years and the time I got to hang out with you and Linda outside the hotel Saturday night, '07. I've got reservations made and the cooler packed.

Yep. I've already start getting the cars ready for an other fun season. We've got quit a few outing planned this year. In fact, Scott and I drug the wives to Mid America Motorworks just last weekend. FunFest will be here before you know it.

For the FunFest newcomers, this is what you have to be careful about up there. Last year whilst having a cold beverage with LT4Man, my car got hi-jacked and wound up on MidAmerica's "finish line" display.

John,
I called the Super 8 last night to confirm my reservation for the event. The clerk told me that they had just sold their last room for FunFest and that other area motels were either completely booked, or very close to it.
Anyone in the CAC group who hasn't yet needs to get on the phone right away and get a room reserved.
With this kind of demand, I'm surprised that MidAmerica doesn't open their own motel or dormitory-type facility adjacent to the FunFest site. I'll bet they've considered it.

MidAmerica will have three regional/local bands to play Sat. night at FunFest '08. I was poised to vote for-one of-three like last year. Now, thanks to Mike, we'll hear three-of-three.
