Installed a CS-144

Picked up a CS-144 alternator, AC Delco part number 321-1144, at the local boneyard. It came off a 99 Lumina VIN "K". It's one of those goofy ones with a big third "ear" ....so I lopped off that ear. I got it tested at Kragen and it was all good! Not bad for 20 bucks.

I replaced the serpentine pulley with my v-belt pulley and bolted it in place of my 94 amp 12si. Lined right up. I did have to use a different bolt on the upper adjustable arm; I inserted a piece of 3/8" tubing(as a spacer) in the case hole and snugged it all down.

I went to NAPA and bought a 12si-to-CS144 pigtail adapter (Part number Echlin EC82) and a slightly longer belt. That cost me 36 bucks....well, that's now more than the alternator...oh well.

Today I hooked it all up and it works just great. With the A/C on, brights on, fuel injection, electric fuel pump, and everything else I could turn on(brake lights, blinkers, radio, etc) the lowest voltage at idle was always >13.75 volts at the battery terminals.

I found that the alternator off of a TPI Vette from 86-91 will work just fine with the pulley swapped-

The housing is at the same 12 and 6 position as the C3 alternators. You'll need a new pigtail- but man, 108 amps are great!

the hot ticket. According to the napa website they put out 150 amps and they're CS-144's. They also bolt right up and they're on bunches of cars...and they look ok once you lop off the goofy third ear.
