I do not know how many messages I receive where I have to play them over and over to obtain the phone number.

1. The foreign accent, my phone back is ah, is 1-something unintelligible

2. The speedy -Gonzales's please call me back at 1-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-ext-yyyyyyyyyy no pause or clear enunciations, when a nice pause would work much better. Please call me back at 1-800, a short pause, 555 another short pause, 12 short pause 34.

3. then there is is the traveling _hit salesman who gives you his number while munching on a mouthful of his free _hit samples and mumbles tehnumber all out, caaallll meee attttt, mum, mum 1 mum mum, 8 mum mum oh, mum oh, big mumble 5 mum mum 5mum 5 mum 1mum, 2 mum 3 mum, mumble, mumble

So lets spread the word when calling someone and you have to leave a return number, slow down , and clearly enunciate the phone number you wish for them to call you back at.

I have some of the calls like from examples 1 through 3 where I just delete the message, instead of playing the rewind half a dozen times to decipher their number. I figure if it is all that important, they will just have to call back.

Very good points. #2 starts off ''very important ,call me at ----) any they go into hyper.
I've been teased at lot for sounding like a robot when I leave a number ,but atleast they call me back
Your points are well taken and it has a lot to do with the lost art of etiquette.

Number 2 is the one that burns me up. They'll be all slow and deliberate and then at the very end "blalalahalah".
Dude, not cool.... :eyerole
I'm always very sure to slowly and distinctly recite my number. Sometimes I'll even joke around in a voicemail and say, "My number is ###...OK, go get your pen and paper...pause...OK, my number is..." :L

Evolution1980's Law: When ever you need to write something in a hurry, the first pen you pick up will not work correctly or at all.
