Please just give a wave in here and let me know if you plan on attending so I can see and make a list of who'll be here and how many rooms needed (I'm starting off guessing, let me know if it's correct or not please!).

If you are local and don't plan to stay at the hotel let me know so I won't be counting you as needing a room.

If I've put your name in during my initial posting and you aren't going to make it, let me know so I can remove you.

(I'm not keeping track of the room/no room lists seperately since I'd originally just been keeping track of it to get an idea of how many rooms to talk to the hotel about...look forward to seeing everyone there!)

The date for the spring run on the Tail of the Dragon www.tailofthedragon.com will be May 4th-6th (fri-sun).

I'll try to find out what I can and let you know more details asap.

I will keep updating this post as more information about the trip get's set so it will all be in one place.

When you call to make reservations, tell them that you are with the Corvette Action Center which is staying from May 4th-6th, they should give you a discounted rate which for the base rooms starting price should be 71.99. If you are not staying both nights, I don't know if you'll get the discounted rate or not.

FRIDAY:
6:30pm in the hotel lobby, meet up and head out for dinner and?

Saturday:

8:00am Meet in the hotel lobby, head out for breakfast followed by lot's of fun cruising!

Date is going to be May 4-6, hopefully that'll work for your schedule, one of these days I need to make it to Huntsville Dragstrip! I'm not booking rooms for people, just trying to decide on which hotel to stay in. Right now I'm trying to see just how many rooms we will probably need to see if we might qualify for a group rate somewhere. I'll let everyone know something about the hotel quickly as I can.

I'll expect to get there sometime late afternoon most likely on the 4th, friday. We can all meet up that evening, then spend the weekend running the roads until people need to head back home.

Yes, got it...sorry haven't responded, have been a bit insane lately....lol. It's on top of my inbox though, so I haven't forgotten you!

The bug licking seminar didn't happen, something about there not being enough bugs on anyones front bumper for VettBoy to even get a decent snack out of...or something like that. I think it's sposed to be rescheduled for this coming fall...I'm not washing my car for a month this time to make sure the front end has a good supply of bug's for the lickin.

I was kinda lookin' at 1100 miles in 6.5 hours. The traffic on the GW bridge always slows me down .That and Buicks.I can't believe GM built a car that wouldn't go over 45 mph,plus they go on red and stop on green.

jhecox;We used to have a summer house in the UP in Ceaderville,used to be when you crossed the boarder into Michigan if you were not doing 80-85 and up you would get ran over,I am looking for some of this in Kentucky,we are about 20 min from Ky.Whishfull thinking if nothing else.We have not been in your great state in a few years,sure do miss being on lake Huron;in the summer of course.

After a lenghty family discussion I can probibly go.The plan is to drive down ,do the dragon leave the car off with Junie to sell and fly home. I feel like i'm being let out on probation ! Here is a partial list as I remember it-
MY WIFE:no mooning,flashing or streaking
no sleeping with the opposite sex
no sleeping with the same sex (fat chance in hell )
no farting while sitting on plastic or vinyl
do not talk about the Hannaford story at the table
do not spend time with small children as you could be confused
as being a pervert rather than just plain weard
buy only a return plane ticket to Maine
be sure to take lexapro once a day to keep you calm,better still
try one a hour
don't talk much as people are quick to determine your abnormal
you must get a haircut and shave once in a while
you must wear clothes that have no holes ,try to look decent
second thought don't tell the Hanniford story
again buy only a return plane ticket to Portland ,Maine May 7th 20

I'm hoping we're able to get some decent runs through the dragon, there's a mini cooper rally going on that I hope doesn't hold us up much.

To do just a bit of planning...I'm going to propose for everyone who can get there friday evening, meet up in the hotel lobby at 6:30pm and we'll head off to find somewhere to have dinner at...does this work or not work for anyone, need the time bumped a little later if you're coming very far so you can make it?

We are for a little(or a lot) of bonding Friday night.We (I) are looking forward to this trip, our local Corvette club does not do much.As for road trips I can't even get them to go to Bowling Green for a weekend and that is not that far from us.

Sorry Old Man, I didn't want to push you too hard, but I did want us to drive fast enough so when we hit bug's they'd actually splatter on the front of the windshield instead of just bounce off laughing.

BTW, you do realize most people use a radar detector so that they know there's a cop and to slow down....not to alert them that there's one so they can know to speed up so they don't get a ticket for driving too slow and holding up traffic...:L

Sounds good...you get that Junk, make sure you've got a carmine red thong on when you jump out of the cake...hope that's not a problem!

Our leader has picked a hotel that has some decent reviews. There is no restaurant or bar at the facility but it states within walking distance all will be found.I don't know if these are the ones but this is some of whats in Alcoa. Applebees ,hooters,Bel-air grill,Texas roadhouse and Zaxby's .I'm sure Charlie knows all this and has everthing micro managed to the minute as always.

Well for starters we get some of these multiple vet owners to offer up their extra vette to someone to drive for the day...you wouldnt know anyone like that would you?:eyerole

I'm hoping the mini coopers don't have the roads clogged up too badly, maybe we should get vett boy to leave the plow on the front of his car so he can take point and clear'em all off the road for the rest of us. :L

Kind of, yes...my normal preference is Fontana Village, that's booked solid as was most everywhere in Robbinsville. Some places had a couple of rooms or so, but nobody had enough to try to even think about everyone staying at when I was calling around. This looked to be about the best closest choice I could come up with on short notice at the time.

We're doing the back brakes this time, including the parking brake. The car is up on jacks, the brake pads have been ordered... and after that's all back together, I've got to get the oil changed and probably try to get all the clutch/transmission/rear dif fluids all changed to try to get the clutch acting respectable again. (We like to cut it close)

I wish WE were getting some Corsas installed! Can't wait to hear them, Gry Ghst.

My "Oil Change/clean-up" got postponed when we put insurance on a 94 Sable my Wife bought for the youngest to drive it was clunking whenever you turned a corner. The spring was broken into three pieces in the drivers side front strut. I learned the most important tool in a ford mechanics chest is a torch ;LOL
hopefully the Vette goes on the lift tomorrow:upthumbs

I found redline synthetic smoothed out my trans and I use it in both the 97 and the 76 (Tremecs)

Had my rt shoulder completly reconstructed and am getting back to normal......what ever that is for me:boogie . 3-5 of may is the NSRA at Chilhowee park here in Knoxville. not that it really matters but some of the rods will probly come out to the dragon at one point or another. i am going to try and come out but no promises at this point:cool . if i do it will be a day trip again for me. its cool dont mind just want to see every body...and i mean every body.....get it?:L i know ISS ISS.

Seige Engineering in Athens TN. On the internet and ebay. Paid about 200 with shipping. It's a 120 psi system. They have 200 psi as well. I'm trying to get a group buy together for the Avalanche Forum so maybe we need a corvette group buy. I have no idea where they would mount. The tank is 3 gallons and the horns (4) are about 20" long. Sound wicked. Very scary. You even jump yourself when they go off even if you're the one triggering them.:w

We're behind too! The old POS air compressor gasped its last dying breath today, 10 minutes too soon- before Phil could get the calipers off the last wheel. A quick trip and $600 later... and he now has the air compressor he's been wanting for at least 10 years ;)

I pulled out the 63 last night for a drive and a bath. I don't know if the Dragon is a place 44 year old suspension technology. I want to change the fluids and hook up a radio for crusing. Besides that 'Rowdy' there aren't seat belts yet and the seats are only bolted in the front. Is that ok or should I spend some time on the interior? I've been waiting on all of that since I think I'm going to spray the car with clear this summer. Anyway the window glass isn't in yet so you can hold on by shoving your hand down in the door. :L :L 7days and counting.

I'm out of here in about 24 hrs.I have my speedo"s ,A bucket of Ben Gay and my astro pampers.
I'm also waiting for my last minute instructions on behaving.I'll toss those over the New Hampshire bridge.
Now keep in mind that my Vett is not registered.And no valid state inspection sticker so I could run into delays. I'm taking the advice of a person well versed in the law, he said "drive her" and thats what i'm doing.

$1600 later, we have the wheels swapped out, all the fluids replaced, all the brakes done... a/c fixed, some belts replaced, etc, etc.

Now all she needs is a new clutch and an exhaust. We'll save that for the next trip :chuckle

We'll be pushing it to make it by 6:30, but with a little luck... maybe.

It has been heavy and spongy since we got it. You can't feel where it engages like you could on the 02. I figured it was just a case of NASTY old clutch fluid. Changing that helped, but the guys at the dealer said it is on the way out. I said we'll just drive it until it starts slippin', thank you very much :D

At the rate we drive it, it could last for years :chuckle

The replacement AC head unit, brake booster, and RF wheel speed sensor are SUPPOSED to be in tomorrow. I had her at Kevin's this morning at 8 A.M. and waited for parts until noon. :mad

And if replacing the head unit doesn't fix the problem - I'm looking at an accuator replacement, which Kevin says means the dash would have to be pulled.

I'm starting to feel snakebit. ;squint:

I hope you only fix whats needed to be safe for the trip and leave the big stuff till later I have some new cigars for you to try, small cigarillo size, since Ohio went "smoke free" I've had to adjust my cigar size.;LOL

I'm hoping, Craig! Kevin seems to think all will be well after a day in the shop tomorrow. Problem is that I don't like the idea of heading out on a four day trip with unresolved mechanical issues or less than a day to drive her and make sure they didn't miss anything..

The brake booster is pretty much a given that will be done... the speed sensor too... the head unit SHOULD be replaced but I don't know if it will fix the problem and it's getting too HOT (90 degrees here today) to drive around with the AC AND HEATER blowing fullblast at the same time! :eyerole

Just checked out a Dragon forum and they're predicting 450 Mini's for the May 3-6 gathering. We're gonna be up to our eyeballs in Mini's. :L Sure hate all those sleek Corvettes are going to make those Mini's look bad. ;)

The replacement AC head unit, brake booster, and RF wheel speed sensor are SUPPOSED to be in tomorrow.

I'm ready for a break. If I can get the 63 ready my business partner and his son are going to drive one up and i'll take the other. I called every holet in the area for some rooms and some actually laughed at me. We may pitch a tent in the hotel front yard or we'll just head back down the mountain before we get too drunk. :w

If anyone is interested in a side trip on the way home on Sunday here is a fun place to spend some time. It is just south of the Dragon.

These are some awesome sites in North Carolina mountains Highlands Area that are little known about.
An awesome one day family vacation. About 2.5 hours away from here towards Asheville then on into Transylvania County.
Dry Falls is a Full Rushing waterfall you can walk under. Bridal Veil falls is on the side of the road and you can drive under it with the car. Looking Glass falls you can stand right beside. None of these are a long walk to get there and you are right on the waterfalls.
Cullasaja Falls runs under the road. You have to stop and get out to get a good view of the actual falls.
Great little places to eat also. I recommend you try the Moose Cafe in Asheville at the Farmers Market Exit off interstate 40 for Breakfast on the way or Dinner on the way home.
When you turn left on the exit ramp going toward Hendersonville you will see the Moose Cafe just on the other side of the Interstate Bridge.
There are a bunch of waterfalls in this area. Thought you and your family might enjoy this if you have never been.
Oh yeah, don’t miss the drive thru the Pisgah National Forest. This is where sliding rock falls is located.
Those kids are nuts to do that but they actually go down it. The water must be freezing coming off those mountains.

Hours: Dawn until dusk, year-round.
Picnic tables: No
Restrooms: No
Fee: $2 for vehicles that carry seven passengers or less; $1 for passenger vehicles that can carry more than seven people. Annual pass available for $15. The one-day or season permit is also valid at Whiteside Mountain and Whitewater Falls.
