View Full Version : Spring Dragon Run?

I still want to do a fall run again this year that would run for a few days like it did last year, but odd's are that I'm going to head over there in the spring. If you would like to go for a short weekend, speak up!

I'm thinking something most likely along the lines of getting in friday, running the roads saturday, maybe a run up and down the dragon one last time sunday morning and heading home by sunday morning/afternoon.

The two weekends I'm currently looking at are the first two weekends in May, which would mean either the 4th-6th or 11th-13th. If you really want to come but only one of these two weekends is open to you, let me know!

Thanks!

:w Jane AnnSorry ,"Old Dog'' can't chaperone for me in May. And both my wife and sons wouldn't approve of Junkie to watch me.Even after I explained he was a retired Baptist minister.;) So I guess you'll have to party without me Jane Ann.
Anyone who goes and doesn't have a good time ,doesn't know what a good time is.:)

I would love to go. The wife already said "have fun". I just have to see if I can fit it in. I was looking at going to the C5/C6 bash for a day or 2 just to check it out not to mention CF so.... If I can swing it I'll be lookin for a roomy.

As far as when? both weekends look open so far.

On the bright side I finally got the rear tires replaced. I'm thinkin' 40k on the original GY emts was enough.

It would be nice to meet some new CAC'ers and say HI :w and a few OLD CAC'ers (like Dwayne) to say HI again.

We will defiantly try to get the Atomic Orange cruser there. :lou

Really wish we could make it in the spring, as I would like to meet

I liked Fontana, but I'm certainly open to trying new places too.
I guess about the only downfall to Fontana was that business about splitting the tickets at the restaurant :L

I don't know what else is up there, I'll have to do a google search and see what turns up. Anyone else stayed at a good place around Robbinsville?

Shan, any chance of bringing more... :beer ? That was yummy.

I hope I don't show my ignorance, but where is the Dragon run? From all the posts, it appears to be in the Southeast somewhere. For those of us living west of the Mississippi, it is a major drive (just like the one you both will make for Cruise Fest in CS) and not just a weekend jaunt. Could either one of you provide some info on this as I would like to make a trip in 2008 and take the drive with fellow CAC members. Sounds like great fun.

Thanks

I'm not Tammy or Jane Ann but I'll chime in with my 2cents. The Tail of the Dragon is a very twisty road on the TN, NC boarder. Its also known as US129

http://www.tailofthedragon.com/

Its an extreamely beautiful drive from what they tell me. I had my eyes glued to the road. 318 curves in 11 miles

There are many other wonderful roads to drive in that area also like the Cherohala skyway and the best for me was the drive from Gatlinburg through the national park. I'm not sure of the road name hopefully someone else will remember.

Here are some pictures and a video from the fall run.

Thanks C5y2K for the information and the videos - if I drove the Tail of The Dragon, my eyes would be glued to the road. As Sgt Preston's wonder dog, Yukon King would say, if you are not the lead dog, the scenery never changes. But in this case as shown by your videos, the scenery is mostly corvettes and I find that most pleasing. I think I would like being further back in the "pack". When you make the Tail of the Dragon run, is it a round trip event?

Thanks again for taking your time to respond to my post.

Dont be fooled by all the vetts in the pictures and videos. I was in the middle of the pack to get a good shot of us. The majority of traffic on the dragon is motorcycles.

We made a weekend out of it spending a couple of nights at Fontana Village. I drove all weekend and couldnt get enough of the twisties. I tried to get the wife to drive it but she didnt have the desire or she saw how much fun I was having and didnt want to take that from me. :rotfl

Tammy,

Thanks for the response and the invite to Tail Of The Dragon in 2008. Next year I should be retired and have the time to do all the Corvette things that I want. My wife is afraid that I will drag her to every event, but I promised her I wouldn't. She once asked me how often I think of corvettes, and I answered with the question, "do you mean how many times per day, per hour, or per minute?" My brother in Kansas City wants to go also, so I would pick him up along the way.

To have my picture of either of my vettes taken by you would be awesome. Would you autograph it for me? I will ask you to take one in CS this year. I have pictures that I've taken, but yours always seem to stand out as the "perfect pic" and I know are cherished by the owner.

I can't answer the wet or dry question yet since I'm not exactly sure where we're staying at. I'm working on finding us a hotel right now, where we've stayed at before is already booked up, along with the other couple of closest ones. Soon as I'm able to pick the hotel, I'll let ya'll know which one and I'll try to remember to ask when I talk with them if it's wet or dry.

For everyone getting this, I'm starting a headcount thread, please just chime in there so I can get as good of an idea as possible about how many rooms we may be needing, hopefully get some kind of a group rate.

Thanks!
