View Full Version : Front-end Design
A lot of people have stated that they don't like the front-end design of the C6.
If you could, how would you design the front end of the C7 differently?

Yea, those C6 headlights are fuggly. At least make it reflective under the glass, so it looks like a headlight, in stead of body colored.

I don't have a problem with non-popups on the Corvette; just look at C5's that have been converted... they look cool.
But it's beyond belief that Dave Hill signed-off on the selection for the C6 non-popups. Ugly is an understatement. They're so large that you could store watermelons in them.

Sleeker design on non-popup headlights and get rid of the C6 smile.
I'm for the non-popup lights. One less electronic thing to fix later and it's cleaner aero-wise.
While I'm not in a front plate state, Chevy needs to make a front plate mount fit the car and still provide the aero cleaness needed.
Twin air inlets would work - somewhere between the C5 version and the F430 version.

Gentlemen,
Did you watch the Daytona 500? Even Mr. Waltrip said the pace car looked like a car from the movie "Cars" which he was in. Come on! It is shameful! I have owned Corvettes since the original phrase " Real Corvettes have Trunks" was in vogue. The C6 is silly looking from the front! Sure it better, faster, stiffer than my Collectors Edition 1996 roadster, but I could not own it. The C5 has that menacing look like all the early 'Vettes, the C6, a true Chevron car, just put teeth in the opening and give it a "cute" name.
So please make the C7 with a "face" that says what it is; a force to tbe reckoned with , not smiled at.

Where can I see a rear view of this car? I can only find a front shot when searching google. I think it is looking more and more like the foreign jobbies and less and less like a corvette. I'm in favor of bringing back the old headlight style for sure.

I agree, it looks as if the just got tired and quit designing, and left it with an unfinished look. If the used what I think is the best rear end, from the 96 C4, it would really finish it

I love the side and rear look of the C6. I actually think, from those angles, it is the best Corvette has looked.
But I agree with the title of the thread that the front end needs some work. It's too smiley-cutesy-rounded. It needs some harder, sharper edges.
The headlights could use a little tweaking as well. They just seem to disappear. They look like a lot of other headlights. Would be nice to see something that looks good and is also unique to Corvette.

I agree about the placement of the licence plate but as long as I can keep that damn thing off tha front of my vette I'll do it. If I eventually FORCED to put the plate on the front ,the museun offers a great piece that you can attach to dam under tha front facia that won't obstruct the beauty of theC6.

Linda you're right. Seems to me that the only people that dislike the C6 are the C5 owners; LOL. I have had pop ups and flush and I'll take flush every time; just one less thing to go wrong mechanically.
I love my C6, front and back; I bought the Museum license plate holder, looks fine. That said I do think the light pod could be smaller, more Ferrari like; like the 599. I've gotten more looks and compliments on this car than any other, even had a guy at a gas station come up and tell me that my car looked good enough to eat. I just love this friggin car.:cool

I'm a C5 owner, but I've been a C-1, C-2, C-3 and C-4 owner. I think the C-6 is worthy of being a great dream car and sports car. I just can't warm up to the cut off look and the bug eyes that never close. With all the design and engineering resources that supposedly are available to GM I just think they could have come up with a much bigger wow factor. I'm hoping they can think outside the box for the C-7. JMHO:)

When you drive the C6 the headlights shine, would never go back. My guess is that those that don't like the way they look forgot that it's about driving and they are great for that. I have to agree with the constipated rocket, I dearly loved the C5s.

I have to agree, the front cap on the C6 is boring. That yellow pic above may look like a catfish mouth, but it's better than what we have.
I prefer pop-up lights, but at least these work. I added HIDs to my C5 Z06.
I still remember how my C4 lights did the roll over when turned on. Always thought that was cool.
The C6 front cap needs more detail, it's just too bland. GM did a better job on the Saturn Sky.

The more I look at the C6 the better I like it. The one thing I just don't care for is the body color under the headlight cover. Black ones are the only ones that look right although black in the headlights wouldn't look good on any other color. A chrome headlight area would look too ricey.
How about keeping the fixed headlights and having a body colored cover that would drop slightly and retract back under the fender like a sunroof exposing the clear covered headlight module that would then raise slightly to become flush with the fender? You would have a clean no headlight look with the benefits of the good aero of the fixed light when they were on.
Tom

We finally got rid of the pop-ups, don't bring them back. Overall I really like the C6 but I would like to see a more aggressive look to the front end as others have stated. And a better implementation to the front license plate bracket. But I would rather see the individual state requirements for a front plate go away instead. This would allow the auto makers more design leeway when designing.

I just had to say "I like ALL Corvette's", even the C6's, although I would not buy one. My first Corvette was a '63 cpe, I was 19 yrs old. My second came in '01 and was a '77 cpe. In '03 I purchased my Z06. All of my Corvette's had hidden headlights and that's the way I like them. If GM were to come out with hidden headlights in the future I might consider getting one. If not, it looks like I'm staying with my '03.

Don"t get me wrong I also like all corvettes but since this is the first one that I have ever owned, this is my generation (C6) and I love it. L.Lake(LITLZO6)
If you go back through the generations (even within some of the gens) the changes are dramatic! I feel sure there have been many people p***ed or disgusted with every change.
But after you see a new car for a while you will get used to the shape, and if that shape is associated with incredible performance, it will likely become a positive association.
I have owned other generations (still love the look of the last generation Z06), and used to think I really, REALLY liked several specific types of early gen Corvettes. By now, they mostly seem kinda' passe--OK looking, but just not enough function.
When the 9th gen. Corvettes come out, people will be moaning about how terrible they look and how the 6th gen cars looked so much better (but they will buy the new ones for great performance, and get used to the look.
In summary, I think that looks are maybe most important when buying older cars--we buy the new ones for what they do, not how they look.

This posting makes no sense to me. Here, we've got numerous Corvette enthusiasts who are squabbling over the design of the C5 and C6. What difference does it matter? Some like the exposed headlights, some like the flip ups. What does matter is we all like Corvette's or we wouldn't be on this website. Every generation of Corvette was unique with the following generation having upgrades. It's going to be this way for a long time. Get used to it people.

Has anyone else noticed that most of the mfgs are getting away from the "bar of soap" styling and going back to the "folded paper" styling? IMO a good design has some crease lines in it. Probably why I think the Saturn Sky is a much better looking design than the Pontiac Solstice.

First of all, no corvette owner should EVER say he or she does not like another corvette owners car, or the style he or she chose :mad. It's obvious these designs have come a long way and we all have our opinions. I personally love the headlights on my car and I think it is one of the best features. My dad had a 1967 Corvette and when I sent pics of mine to him, he said, "Welcome to the club!" He had nothing bad to say wether he liked the design or not, and that my friends is just pure respect of another corvette. I am young and new to this forum, but it is upsetting to see negative comments about another corvette. Shame, shame, shame :nono.

Hi Linda,
In answering your question as to what we/I think of LeMans blue it would start another fight. ;) I happen to like LeMans blue. I also like Electron Blue. I also like Marina Blue. See where I'm going with this? :)
IMO, the best looking Vette's were the mid-years. In their time they were the fastest, smoothest riding etc. Compared to the C6 they're like driving/riding in a Model A. (Ok, maybe not that bad)
I think the reason why some are bothered about new looks is that they're the ones that can't afford to buy a new Corvette every year. They want theirs to be the "best looking". I fall in that group that can't afford to buy a new one each year but I don't care what others think of the style of Corvette I own. I like it and that's all that counts. If I had the means, I'd have 55 of them, I'd be divorced but I'd have 55. :boogie

I guess love is blind, at least for me. I love my '59 and my wife's '81. I had a '55 briefly that I wish was still in the garage and I dearly miss the '65 convertible and the '67 427 coupe I had. I have a lifelong desire to own a '65 Fuelie in black and would love to have a red '69 convertible with both tops, or an Onterio Orange '72 convert with both tops or an orange '74 2 top convert with a 454 and 4 speed. I get excited about the early C4s in modified form like the one the late Ken Stapel built and then there is the ZR1 and '96 collector edition with the LT4 that I can see in my garage. A C5 always turns my head and I'd do dastardly deeds to own a silver or Sunset Orange C6 Z06.
I'm not saying that I have never seen a Corvette that doesn't appeal to me but that would be an individual car and not a specific year or generation.
