If you've wanted to upload photos from your computer into your posts and you aren't familiar with the process, this thread should be able to guide you through it.

First, it may be necessary to resize your photos so that they are within the size restriction. The maximum file size for photo attachments is 122 kb. If you need help resizing your photos, check out this thread here. (http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92538)

If your photos are within the limit, then you can upload them by following these steps.

Step 1 - Reply to a thread or start a New Thread. When the box opens, scroll down to the "Attach Files" section and click on "Manage Attachments".

If the file is greater than the size limit, you'll recieve an error message.

You'll have to pause and edit your photo to decrease it to the 122 kb file size.

If your photo is uploaded successfully, you'll see it appear as an Attachment file in the lower left corner of the browser window.

Right-click on the File name and select Copy Shortcut in the dropdown menu as shown.

NOTE: Thanks go to Evolution1980 for finding a shorter method and thus eliminating several needless steps. And thanks also to the STAFF here on the CAC for their input and advice. :m Thanks y'all!!

Outwest, I'm not sure why you got the error message.

Did you try to upload a second time? If so, are you getting the same message each time? I see by your avatar and sig photos that you've been able to upload at least some photos. Hmmm.

Sending you a PM.

Scott, you CAN use the same photo twice... but you don't have to upload it again. If you have previously uploaded an image in a post as an attachment - it is stored in your Attachments folder.

Go to your User Control Panel...
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c316/JAG_XLR8/Photo_Posting/101.jpg?t=1187878148At the bottom of the box you'll see the link for your Attachments folder.

When you click on the link, it will open the folder and list all the Attachments you have stored. At the lower left side of that box you can click on "Show Thumbnails' and you'll be able to see the images.

Choose the image you want to post again, hold the pointer on it, and right click. This will open a drop down menu with several selections... including "Copy Shortcut".

You can then return to the thread you wanted to post... Click on the Insert image button http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif and paste the address in the popup window which appears. At that point your Attachment should appear in the thread.

Let me know if you run into anymore snags.

Jane Ann: No matter what I do, I keep getting the same "Invalid File" message. I'm linking to my Photobucket album and apparently doing all the right things (my image is 99 x 67 and 6 kb, so it's plenty small), yet nothing works. I've tried to change the image on my avatar, signature and to imbed or add an image to a post. Nothing works.

Please help.

Boeingdriver,

Here's what you're trying to see. Your codes are messed up.

Do you see the difference?
Be sure to remove the spaces in the IMG codes. :beer

Yes, thanks - I'll try this again. But I gotta tell you, and I say this as a friend and supporter of the forum, this is ridiculously complicated. I've been trying to post any kind of an image to my avatar, signature or to a post for the past two hours. It shouldn't take an IT expert to add a simple image to a post.

It's a quirk of the forum software..........the same software used by most major automotive sites. We have no control over the coding required to post photos. ;)

Photos cannot be hosted from your computer. You must upload them to a website first, then link to them with the coding, just like you did with photobucket.

Gosh, there it is. I hope I can remember the coding in the morning. Now I've got to clean up all the stuff I've thrown around my office in frustration tonight.

Thanks. :mad

Steve - awesome photo of your C4! I'm glad to see you were finally able to post it.

If you use the "tags" listed under your pix in Photobucket, I suspect you'll always run into this issue. I never use the tags myself.

Stand by... tomorrow I'll try to post a Help thread for Photobucket image posting. ;)

Jane Ann.....Thanks for your note this morning. The frustrating part about last night was that I was following the directions from Photobucket and from the site exactly. As you've already acknowledged, Photobucket adds [img] and other codes which then are apparently duplicated when a user tries to link a photo to the site, avatar or signature. 67Heaven got me through it last night and ok, perhaps to someone with coding experience, this is pretty easy stuff. But coding to me might as well be arabic.....I can't read it.

I'll bet I'm not the only forum member who has thrown up their hands and walked away while trying to post photos.

If you need a photobucket account to work with in preparing a tutorial, I'll happily give you my information.

As you can see, I'm signatureless today. It got knocked out last night as I was thrashing on the photo issue. And yes, I know, posted photos need to be reduced about half the size of what I posted last night.

Regards, Boeingdriver

Steve - no hill for a stepper! ;)

A better way to build a mousetrap!!!

Go to your Photobucket account and find the image you want to post.

Under the image, left click on the line next to "IMG Code"

It will look like this:
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c316/JAG_XLR8/CAC_Member_Help/Linking_Photos/1.gif

You should see a small button appear which says "Copied". If you don't see that message, RIGHT click and select "COPY".

Go to your "Reply to thread" window.

Place your cursor inside the text field wherever you want the image to appear and RIGHT click. Select "PASTE".

The code for the image will appear like this (spaces inserted to allow viewing of the code - your code won't contain any spaces.)
[ IMG ] http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c316/JAG_XLR8/CAC_Member_Help/Linking_Photos/1.gif [ /IMG ]

Submit your reply and the photo will be there. :)
