Default 65 396 rebuild

I've just completed a complete rebuild of my 65 396 engine. It was in pieces when I started. After completing the build, I read somewhere about installing a baffle plate in the bottom end, connecting to the main bearing caps I think. I did not install a baffle in this engine. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the baffle a critical item?

Keeps the oil from sloshing into the crank during hard acceleration and cornering. Not a must if you don't plan on driving it hard
