Default 1976 Gas Cap Question

Can anyone send me a pic of an original gas cap from a 76E. The book says it was gold. Is that paint or chemically treated? Thanks!

Chris

It wouldn't be paint - most likely zinc/cad plated with a dichromate wash.

My 75's is not painted, it is a goldish metal color. It was oxidized when I first got the car but used my wire wheel bench grinder to polish this stuff off. The final product was this goldish color.

I just checked mine but as soon as I opened the lid I remember that someone had painted it the same color as the car at some point, I though my paint was orginal but the more I look into it it seems like someone has repainted it but at least they used the same color as the orginal paint job. Sorry.
