View Full Version : First CAC Midwest Regional Year End Converence

Event location: Ft. Wayne IN
The first CAC Midwest Regional Year End Conference is scheduled for Sunday evening December 10th at the Smokey Bones BBQ (http://www.smokeybones.com/default.asp) next to Jefferson Pointe. (http://www.jeffersonshopping.com/) We will start arriving around 4:30 pm and it will last until it's over.
The agenda is very important so be sure to attend.
Agenda:
Eat
Drink
Socialize
Absolutely very little of substance will be discussed.
This is your chance to do some Christmas shopping and then have a good meal with old and new CAC friends. We will order off of the menu and everyone will be responsible for their own bill.
I am told that we should have no problem getting seated but they only take reservations for parties of 8 or more. Please RSVP to this thread or PM me so I can get an idea who will be coming then I can make arrangements with Smokey Bones.
We hope to see you there. The food is great and the CAC folks are the best.
:wThe map shows directions from I-69 exit 105. This is the same exit that you take to go to the Corvette Classics Museum. You just go east on Illinois Road instead of west on highway 14.

You could get off at exit 13 and ride down with me. That would do to things, 1) you can sleep some of it off coming back to your car, 2) if you ride back with me you'll be wide awake for the next 2 hours for sure. That is if we don't run into any buggies on 37.

Anyways...as it turns out, I'm scheduled to work 12 hours that day... :(
I'll be there Tom . My brother will probably come too . I'll check with him on Turkeyday , and let you know . Cliff
Tom,
Sounds like a great time! Wish I could go but the drive is a little too far for me. ;)
Have fun!

Why did you choose a Sunday? Makes traveling a bit more difficult, for me at least...
Well, because most people have Sunday off. I have Sunday and Monday off. It is a little far for someone that has to drive 4 hours one way just for a meal. That is one reason I wanted to start a little earlier in the afternoon in case some had a little drive ahead of them afterward.
You know that I run over to Cleveland and back several times a month to pick up argon. It really isn't that big of a deal.
BTW I doubt that you would get bored or even dose off riding with Dad. :D

BTW I doubt that you would get bored or even dose off riding with Dad. :D Yeah, most people have Sunday off. But Monday too?? Not me! ;shrug
As for dozing off in the passenger seat, that's just it! I have a hard time relaxing in the passenger seat! There's only two people I'm completely 100% comfortable with behind the wheel if it's not me. If my hands aren't on the steering wheel and my feet on the pedals??? *shivers* I get uneasy.

That sounds like fun, I will check the schedule and see what I can do. The run up from Bloomington will not be to bad, and we can switch off driving.

With any luck it will be a nice day for a drive up from Bloomington..
Yes I get Mondays off but my Saturdays end anywhere from 3-7 AM on Sunday morning. :z Probobly the same as yours except I'm working :L

I hope you can but I realize it is a little haul for you. I think it will be a lot of fun to get together occasionally. It gives us a chance to visit between CruiseFests.
Tom
Not that much of haul, Tom. 3 hours and 15 minutes from my door to the restaurant. And that is averaging only 53 MPH. If I step it up a bit, I can be there in less than 3 hours.
I might find accomodations for the nite and return to Chicago on Monday.
At any rate, should be nice to see some of us before next year.

I'm going to call tomorrow and make the final arrangements with Smokey Bones. I'll reserve plenty of seats in case anyone decides to come at the last minute. It's easier to show up with less people than more.

We are all set for the 10th. Smokey Bones assures me that there will be plenty of room. If you aren't sure that you can make it until the last minute please come anyway. There will be a seat even if you have to sit on bossvette's lap.

I would but its not just me ... We just took a week for Thanksgiving and are taking another week starting the 16th. We had better not push it with any more days off right now.. Christmas vacation and New Years are also coming up. Maybe we can catch the next one !!

Hope to see you all this Sunday, take care and be careful. If I had a place to wash the Vette inside I would consider driving her. One day when I get my dream garage, or as I refer to it as my final resting place.

In two days we'll be stuffin' our faces and discussin' some serious stuff. ;)
For those out of towners there is a good sized outdoor mall that Smokey Bones is located at for some last minute shopping.
I would love to eat with ya'll again. I had a good time the last time we all gathered there.
Just incase any of you don't remember me, I was the vetteless guy at the opposite end of the table from 6-Shooter.
I'm about 4 hrs away now and I would love to show off our new AO, but I think I'll have to try to make it another time. We are still trying to get unpacked and settled in.
You all have fun and I'll try to make it the next time.

I remember you as well Hecox, good luck on the un-packing and hope to see you next trip. Are you still driving the Vette or is it put up for the season? This winter get together makes this cold season go by just that much faster. So far my plan is still to be there and hope to see you all that can make it.

Kewl, my wife has to work, she is in the health care business so she works every other week-end. I might do a little shopping at Jeffferson Pointe before hand myself. I usually wait until Chirstmas eve, like living on the edge I guess :L I hate shopping for someone else esspecially :confused
Hope to see you all there tomorrow.

I'm in Auburn Hills, MI (N. side of Pontiac). The Vette is in the garage under a cover. I had it out a couple of weeks ago when it was nice out.
Looks like it is suppose to be a nice day tomorrow.

The '81 is also under cover. I was hoping to get a little road time in yet this year but I'll need a really nice day. The '59 isn't under a cover. Wouldn't want to get a cover dirty. :L
It's calling for mostly sunny and a high of 42 so we should have a nice day to get together. See y'all about 4:30. I'll be a little early to make sure we get some tables arranged. (Cliff, really I will). I am also being subjected to the shopping thing tomorrow. There are a few stores in Jefferson Pointe that aren't in Edgerton too.
Just ask for the Corvette Action Center group when you come in.

Well Gregory, lt4man, was there before we were but we were still early. The big question is where was Bill, hoosierdaddy
Boy where do I start; well let me start at the begining. Saturday I was 100% sure I was going to be there but I had been to the funeral home, my best friends sister passed away. Sunday was the funeral and it was at 11 AM, still not a problem had plenty of time. But I got out to my friends house after the funeral and everyone else was there that was at the funeral and by the time I got out of there is was just too late, just a super long day and these kinds of things drain me anyway.
Sorry I will make it the next time unless it's my own funeral; but I second if at all possible having it on Saturday, I think more would be able to make it. Definently wasn't my excuse this year but being Sunday is the day before Monday, Saturday at least gives you a day in between. So I do appoligise for not being at "Smoky Bones" sure missed you all and I had the best of intentions.
Please forgive me this time,
Bill :cry

I understand how those things go. There will be a next time.
I had a great time seeing and talking with everyone!
Bill, sorry about the funeral. I am sure you were able to give some consolation to the folks there.
Tom, thanks for organizing the "event".
Was a little drive for me, but was certainly worth the time and effort!
You know, there are a lot of CACers in the Chicago area. Maybe I should put out the word for folks after the holidays. Tom, I think you might have started something!

I don't see any reason why small groups of members living close together can't meet for dinner occasionally. It helps break up the time span between CruiseFests. I'm glad everyone enjoyed themselves.

I second that and will do every thing I can to make the next one. Later in the season would be nice that way everyone will have their Vettes unwrapped.
Sure missed seeing everyone this year, take care and hope to see you all next time.

I think we should do it more often there is a restaurant in Toledo I want to go back to and there is always the Loon Lake lodge we could make a day trip out of that and tour the Indy museum.

Sorry I could not make it. Had to go to my nieces holiday show at the local high school. I will definately try to get to the next one. sounds like every one had a good time. If you all want to come to Indy, I would be happy to help make arrangements.
Tom Bryant
12-16-06, 01:50 PM
Are you talking about the museum at the 500 track?
Yes.
The Loon Lake Lodge and the 500 Museum would be a nice day trip. I think we will need to take Bruce up on his offer to make arrangements. Last night when I went past the Loon Lake Lodge they looked packed. We would probably need reservations.
We should plan this for early spring when it's nice enough to get the cars out.
Maybe we can do the Toledo thing sometime this winter when we are all suffering from cabin fever. We might even be able to drag Herb out of his garage long enough to get a bite to eat.
Also we don't want to forget that the Detroit Auto Show is coming up and the Detroit Autorama is in March. We could get a group together for those events too.
bossvette
12-16-06, 02:05 PM
Are you talking about the museum at the 500 track?
Yup My Wife and I spent a couple of Hours there last year, the local Vette club was on a "color tour" in Nashville Indiana and she had to work Sat so we missed the group. We left West Unity about 3 had Dinner at the Loon Lake Lodge there was a 3 piece blues band playing on the patio so we stayed till about 9. We Stayed at a Hotel across the street;Toured the Indy museum and still beat the local Vette club to their Sunday night stop. :L
It would be a great spring get together, the Comfort inn across the street is a decent enough Hotel if anyone wants to spend the night.
