Default Ignition distributor shield question.

Hello everybody,

I have a 81 engine but this is a general question.
When i look at my black plastic distributor shield, it has a bold sticking out on the right side. Looking at the way it is mounted on the inside it is original, but where is it for? Sorry no pictures yet.

Groeten Peter.

It should have a strap to outside valve cover bolt. It's the grounding sheild strap ... if you notice the inside of the dist. cover it has an aluminum or chrome liner that is tied to the bolt extending from the cover.

Thanks for the info Bud and Bob.
Now i know why there is a useless groundstrip connected to my oildipstick frame. It has been in the wrong place for many years. Now i hope to find the right english winged bolt here in europe..

Groeten Peter.
