The Corvette Funmeet was such a success and so many people enjoyed racing their Corvette's that we are going to do it again.
Please look at the flyer attached for information on this event.

We will be running our cars as part of Orlando Speed World Dragway's "Funday-Sunday" program, and we hope to attract as-many Corvette-owners as possible, with an eye on eventually having regularly-scheduled monthly get-togethers at OSWD:

Open 10:00 AM - Lanes close: 5:00pm
Admission $10 - Only $5 More To Run

You know I will be there and hope to see both familiar and new faces at the track. Thanks for keeping us updated on the event.

Any special requirements to participate, ie a helmet, etc?

Standard / NHRA stuff, which I believe includes a helmet for cars running 13.99-or-quicker/or in ANY convertible (maybe Red69 or litevette, who master-mind these get-togethers, can find-out for-sure from OSWD's web-site, and post here, as Corvettes may be 'different' in the eyes of NHRA ) :
also, long-pants, no mid-riff baring T-shirts or tank-top, socks with closed-toe shoes (no-sandals ) is what NHRA & IHRA-sanctioned tracks usually look-for as for driver-protection.

Glen knows his stuff, but to put any doubt at rest, I have contacted the track for an official response. My email received a timely response to call, as they are busy this week preparing for the Real Street Nationals being held this weekend. If you are in the Orlando, FL area you don't want to miss it. Also, to qualify as a 'street car' all the cars must make the cruise from the track to Race Rock. Race Rock is an eatery with a race car theme and the cruise is Thursday. Anyhoo, as soon as I receive the official track requirements I will post them here. I am getting stoked with the prospects of what this weekend holds in store.
Don't forget Dec 3, that's when the Corvettes get to strut their stuff.

Ok...I spoke with the OSWD track official today and they purdy much repeated what Glen said above. The NHRA rules are used at the OSWD track. A helmet that is SNELL or FFI approved is required for any car running under 14 sec. That is a full face under chin helmet, not a smaller motorcycle type helmet. If you are looking to buy one you don't need to spend a fortune. I bought a G-Force model 5410LRGBK for around $160 at my local speed shop. If you have a Corvette convertible you will need a roll bar running under 13.49, but there is some tolerance there. If you are running under 12 there are other requirements, but you already know about them if you are there. Full shoes and socks, long pants with a shirt, (no tank tops) are required to race. They will also check that your seat belts and windows are in working order. The guys at the tech inspection are usually a friendly team trying to maintain an acceptable level of safety for everyone. These rules make drag racing available to most stock and mildly modified street cars with the driver wearing a helmet. It is time to get out of the chair and behind the wheel to see what you and your Corvette can do.
