Since I hang out in this section more than any of the others, figured I'd post this here......

Well, Friday's (29 Sept) the big day. After 30yrs and 7 months, it's time for me to leave the Navy. Been a fun ride, but my time is up. Gotta make room for the younger generation.

Now I have to find a "real" job....http://images.corvetteforum.com/images/smilies/ack2.gif and wear a different set of clothes each day... guess I should start shopping.http://images.corvetteforum.com/images/smilies/frown5.gif

I've been in Submarine repair for my entire career. Started as an Electronics Technician (non-nuke).

After 17 years enlisted, I commissioned as a CWO. Spent the last 13 years managing all aspects of Submarine repair except Nuke stuff.

Retiring CWO4.

I do plan on staying in CT if I can. Still fixing up the house, so a move is not in my near future.
At least I'll have more time to work on the Vette....:lou

Hey congratulations!!! Sounds like you've had a great career and kept out of harms way. Thank goodness there aren't many subs patrolling the streets of Bagdad!
Best of luck in the civilian world, I'm sure things will work out perfect for you. I had a good friend who retired from the Navy and became a math teacher and loved it, you never know where life will take you.

Paul,

As a military retiree myslef (Nov 1991, after 21 years) all I can say is WOW! THIRTY YEARS is unheard of in today's military - CONGRATULATIONS, and sure hope they are honoring you properly!

don't rush into "silly-villian" life - take it easy for a couple of weeks at least, and enjoy time with the family. I am sure there are companies in your area that are beating your door down with offers - let me know what you are looking for and I will see what my company (Booz Allen) has in your area

Congratulations on making it 30 years in the Navy. As an ET2 (surface) I am one of the "younger generation" that you are making room for.

Fair Winds and Following Seas, and good luck with civillian life.:pat

11345Congratulations on surviving 30 years of putting your life on the line for your/our country. I offer my heartfelt thanks and a salute. 11344 :pat I agree with previous posts that you should take some time and relax, enjoy the family and life, take a breather and reflect on your past accomplishments. Then if you are in the mood look for work. I retired on a Friday (1989 -23yrs, 4 mo., 7 days) and started a new job on Tuesday (Monday being a holiday) and have continued to work since. I wish I had some time before I jumped back in the work pool. Any way, what ever you do good luck.:beer

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best wishes for a LONG retirement. You paid your dues and the Country should appreciate eveyone of you guys who have chosen to defend us.

I think retirement is gettin close for me. I could pull the plug now but honestly I don't think i want all that time on my hands W/O the cash to SPEND the way I want to Spend. I think I have enough burried in the tin cans in the new backyard (I hope you are sufficiently stocked with cash) but tappin in to the sayings for a new Newman Frame or an LS7 just would get me killed by my better half. So off to work I go.

Anyway first thing you should do is ENJOY THE FALL IN CT!!!!!!!!!!!! You are right on target for the best season of the year with your 9-29 retirement day. Load up Mrs Sub Fixer in the Vette and head out north to Litchfield ( my home town and stompin grounds) and Cornwall / Sharnon / Lakeville. A run along Route 7 by the Housatonic River.......Do I sound like I wish I was there myself?

BEST WISHES now go ENJOY yourself...that's an order!!!!

Thanks all....
Already got a new job...
Still have to get up a 0500. 60 miles each way to and from work.
Instead of my previous daily driver 64 Corvette, now I drive the wife's Z3. Twice the gas mileage.
Oh well. gotta do what I gotta do.....

Lol, instead of driving a classic Corvette to work, you have to drive the wifes BMW? :L I feel for you man, I really do. :)

Enjoy retirement. 23 years with the Army here. I've been done for a couple years. Still young enough to keep on working.
