My sister was parked in a metered spot on the street and a Jeep backing out of a restaurant went across the 2 lanes of traffic and got her. Fortunately/unfortunately she was in the car at the time, so she was able to get the idiot who ran into her and had the cops intervene. I just hope the car doesn't get totaled... might have to take all the trophies the car's won to the insurance office and do some convincing.

Very sorry. Trophies? What kind of car is it. Can't tell.

It's a '95 Camaro Z28 -- very very very well taken care of car. Everything is still original from the factory.

You can see pics of what it looked like here:

We're all very sad about it :cry

Concerning the trophies, they were all for best in class and runner up in class.

Sad to see...

What did the driver have to say about it? We he/she completely asleep at the wheel or what?

Best of Luck

I really doubt they will total the car with just fender repairs. No air bag deployment I assume? They can have that back to new in no time, just make sure they align the panels well enough that it can go back to shows.

I was at work at the time, so I don't know much about it. The girl who hit my sister was 20 yrs old and told the cop "I was making an illegal turn in reverse and well, guess I shouldn't have huh?" (actual quote -- the funniest part is she said "illegal")

My sister was parked and had just started the engine when she saw some horrified look on some lady's face in a car facing her, then she saw the jeep, couldn't find the horn to blare it, and BOOM. She wasn't even moving, just sitting in the parallel parking space with the engine running. No airbag deployment thankfully and my sister is fine. The car just has (as I estimate it) $4000 worth of damage.

The door is more messed up than it appears -- won't close properly and since Camaros are unibody, all of the panels are slightly jarred. Door and rear quarter panel definitely need replacing, possibly the window motor, and possible 2 speakers. Insurance will probably give us about $3000 I bet, so that won't pay for a decent repaint. Not too happy about this. :cry

Sorry to hear.. And at the worst spot on a Camaro too.. :cry

I dont know about the 95, but when i had a deer bang into the rear panel (right above the wheel, in front of the gas lid), the body shop was able to bang that out. I dont think there is a "rear panel" as such, unless you're talking cutting and reattaching..

My body shop cut a square hole in the wheel well cover (the black part) and pushed out the panel, repainted and done. You cant really tell anything ever happened. Except the gastank lid, which is too straight and doesnt follow the lines, but thats just me being very "particular"..

I'm looking at the pic again and i worry most about the B Pillar, is that dented ? That would blow..

Of course, main thing is your sister is ok. Glad she didnt get hit in the door/window, that is way low..

:( 40 studs in my stud gun,7-8hr straitening and it will be ready for a thin coat of filler(less than 3/16 in.) with no holes!!! Less chance of rust later!! B piller will be no problem, but I'd have to see it, maybe 2-3hr!! Door don't look that bad from what i can see, maybe 4-5hr!! I spend more time straitening because I don't like sanding filler,It suc's!! Paint time would be approx 9 hr

Your looking at around $1800.00 --- $2000.00 hard to say for sure from a photo and with out knowing what the body shop labor rate is in your area!!:upthumbs Let me know how I did when you get a Estimate!!

Well... I might talk to Anthony about it, but I'd like to wait until the insurance finishes what they're doing.

Actually it wasn't that bad of a spot to be hit -- the Jeep apparently missed the wheel and thus screwing up everything mechanical. Unfortunately I'm not completely familiar with what a B-Pillar is -- is it the panel that shows when the door is open? If so, yes, it is damaged -- the door won't close easily. I don't want them reusing the quarter panel, I want them to cut it out and weld a new galvanized steel quarter panel in (on Camaros, only the hood and the 2 rear quarter panels are steel). The panel is too messed up in my opinion to be salvagable.

The door is made of a composite, I believe it is called RMC (Reaction Molded Compound) but I'm not positive of the name. It is pretty heavily damaged though it doesn't look it from the pics I originally posted (I'll post some new ones in a few minutes). I'm not sure how a body shop would go about replacing that.

The entire side of the car is pretty misaligned, when the new panels and whatnot get put on, they are all going to have to be realigned to put it back to the status it was before the wreck.

Unfortunately I don't do bodywork and wouldn't know what to do about this anyway. I'm hoping for more than $2000 from the insurance company since a friend of mine had a similar wreck on their Mitsubishi Eclipse. My friend got $3,850 from insurance to pay for their car and looked similarly damaged.

unforunately , im sure the insurance company will look at this as just another 1995 camaro and pay off accordingly. to them its a 12 year old daily driven car and just needs a small repair. they are not ( usually ) interested in your sentiments. its a business transaction and thats all.........

My friend got $3,850 from insurance to pay for their car and looked similarly damaged. Bank lone is only $3675.00 on it! At that rate they will probably want to wash it out!!How many miles is on the car??They don't care about Trophy's,Do you have it insured as a Show car?? If so then turn it in to your insurance co and let them fight about it!! That's what you pay the extra premium for!!:upthumbs

It's not insured as a show car, it just has full coverage and a $500 deductable. It has about 72,000 miles on it, mostly city miles. It's part of the family and has been for 11 years, so it's getting fixed whether they total it or not http://web.camaross.com/forums/images/smilies/cz28flag.gif

I made a gallery of new photos. I sponge bathed the car (except 3 of the wheels -- only cleaned the one near the damage to inspect it) so the body shop would be able to give the car a proper estimate (dirt was covering damage I didn't know existed -- like the scrape on the body side molding on the door). I still haven't tried the electric window to see if it still works nor the speakers in the door to make sure they weren't damaged. The rear quarter panel is basically trashed, there are broken welds attaching it to the rest of the unibody, the door needs at least a new outer panel and maybe more, the fender liner is bent and cracked as shown in 1 pic, the hatchback was jarred to the right, the left rear taillight is cracked internally, the third brake light is misaligned somehow (I'm not even sure how that's possible) and just about every body panel is misaligned by about 1/16 inch at minimum. If you care to play the "estimate the damage" game, then click here:

Well looks like Low Miles Re: (72,000) is a $925 add!!! Sure when a car takes a hit in the side it will pull body gap's wider,it distorts the alignment of allot of things!! What happens when you punch a Beer can in the side!!! The top comes down, bottom comes up and it wont set striate up any more it's Horseshoed so to speak!!"Same Principle"!! But when put on a rack and Pull the Primary damage, it will make most of the secondary damage disappear!! as far as the door I see it as the same, the b piller is not as bad as I expected,Sure it can and usually will break spot welds in the area of the hit,Most Insurance Co's won't change a Qtr panel unless it will take half again the the labor time to replace it,to repair it!!! Which is actually better, because it is allot better to re weld and seal up a few spot welds than to replace panel and seal up 300!! (Allot less chance of rust later!!) What I don't under stand is the Rt.Tail lamp and the Bump in the rear bumper on the Lt. corner!!(Was this done at a different time?) How in the heck did he hit the rear bumper just on the corner and then gouge it in front of the wheel!!! The buckle in the Qtr behind the rear wheel I understand,it is secondary damage and most of it will come out while being pulled, and require some minor hammer and dolly work!! The damage to the molding is no big whoop,it's less than $50.!! I've repaired Qtr Panel's, Pillars and Rocker panels allot worse, and You won't find it at a foot away!!:upthumbsPS I did buy a Salvage yard Door for $350.00,and when I did my pulling ALL of the buckles came out of the roof without paint work!!
