The local Corvette Club here in Amarillo, TX started a tradition back in 2002 and it continues this September 11th.

They start gathering at one of the local Chevrolet Dealers (Westgate Chevrolet) around 4:00 p.m. Drivers Meeting at 5:45 p.m. then start the caravan at 6:00 p.m. and caravan past the Regional Veterans Hospital, and past many of Amarillo Fire Dept's and the Police Dept. to honor our Veterans and Fire / Police.

This will be the first year Nanc and I join the caravan. I read in the past they have had around 100 or more Corvettes join in on the tour past the VA Hospital, Fire & Police Depts. This year, September 11th falls on a Monday, thus the late afternoon start.

In Memory of, and to Honor, those that lost their lives September 11, 2001 the Amarillo Area Corvette Club pays a small tribute:
"As they have done each year on Sept. 11 since 2002, members of the Amarillo Area Corvette Club gathered at Westgate Chevrolet to form a caravan that cruises past the fire stations and the veteran's hospital to pay homage to those who gave their lives helping others on Sept. 11, 2001."
83 Corvettes filed out of Westgate Chevrolet following a Police escort with 2 or 3 Fire Trucks bringing up the end of the caravan. It was a great site seeing all these Corvettes dressed up in the Spirit of America and single file through the City with stops at the Veterans Regional Hospital and Fire Stations, as well as caravaning through local nieghborhoods and part of the business district.
