Hi there,
A few thoughts I had after this years Carlisle.
1) Can it possibly get any better??? I dont think so.
2) 2600 Corvettes, absolutely incredible.
3) Is there a better show anywhere on the east coast?? I dont think so.
I found myself sitting on the crest of the hill after the celebrity luncheon on Sat, having just finished my last seminar and just wondering in awe of what I saw in front of me.
Maybe its too cerebral for a Corvette event, its just so intimidating at times, picking one Corvette out of all those for my personal pick. I saw GS, Collectors editions, Corvette Challengers, Modified, stock, 53-07 models. All personal in their own way, everyone a passionate expression of the people who own them. After 3 walks around the fairgrounds, I found an innocent 1985 with their owners sitting right behind it. Was it the cleanest, most detailed, most powerful? No, but it was the owners, who didnt know who I was talking about how its driven almost daily, raced, 22 mpg highway and low 11s in the quarter, and 'do you want to hear it run??'. After seeing this car, I thought, nice and the owners really love it.
After walking the field 3 times completely, I came back to that car. Because it was how much they loved the hobby, their car and the effort it took for them to get to the event.
To me, THAT is what the Corvette enthusiam is all about. A car that is personally an expression of the owners who love it.
I felt completely satisfied I made the right pick and didnt give it a second thought.
When I came back to the car, I asked if I could put my choice sticker on their car, and they were surprised and didnt know what I was doing.
Afterwards, husband and wife shook my hand and constantly thanking me.
It was I that should thank Corvettes at Carlisle and Lance, for allowing me the honor to pick a car and owners that mean alot to me.
This was truly the best Corvettes at Carlisle ever, and I was given a very special gift this year.
Being able to conduct seminars and help other owners and a smile from appreciative owners who truly KNOW what this hobby means.
THANK YOU FOR CORVETTES AT CARLISLE and for allowing me to have a special part in it.
