View Full Version : Carlisle 2007 - hotel info
hi all
the hotel we stayed in this year allowed us to reserve our rooms for next years show during our checkout.
One item of info that you might want to keep in mind..........
On the THURSDAY night for next year a lot of the hotels are already getting filled up because of new student orientation for Dickinson College.
I haven't been able to make the show until Friday morning the last couple of years but figured Thursday night wouldn't be as much of a problem as Fri and Sat nights if I wanted to "add" that night later on if it turned out I could make it but I was told it was best to get my reservation in INCLUDING Thursday night if I wanted the room as they are already pretty filled up so that's what I did. I figure it will be easier to cancel Thursday night later on if I can't make it than to try to add it.
just an FYI for rooms on Thursday night.

I just made reservations Thur-Sat at the Comfort Inn in Mechanicsburg but the best rate I could get went from $135+tax (for last weekend) to $149+tax for 2007 !!! Inflation? It's a nice place (clean, good rooms, etc.) but $149 seems very high for a hotel with no pool, no lounge and no restaurant! Where are the better deals?
i have no clue yet what the rate in 2007 will be but for last weekend we were at the Sleep Inn in Carlisle. Indoor pool but no lounge or resturant but it is next door to the Cracker Barrel. rate was $144/night
Honestly, I'm only there to sleep although my wife did use the pool two of the nights after we got back. As long as the rooms are clean, don't smell, and no bugs I'm happy.

I just reserved at the Days Inn, 101 Alexander Spring Road for $117 a night w/AAA discount. This is for Thursday thru Sunday. I even called the property and verbally confirmed the reservation with the property Manager.

We also just booked at the Days Inn for next year, and re-confirmed the reservation. Looks like we're all set...and at a relatively reasonable rate!

I cancelled our reservation at the Comfort Inn Mechanicsburg. Now we're going to stay at the Hotel Carlisle for the same cost of the Comfort Inn. I hope that turns out to be a good move. Anyone familiar with the Hotel Carlisle?

Alan and I have stayed at the Hotel Carlisle (formerly the Clarion) for quite a few years. We changed our hotel of choice this past August due to the Hotel Carlisle's ever-increasing room rate, but we really did like the Carlisle. The rooms are very nice (we always got king-sized business class), and the bar area is great after a long day in the sun! For 2007, we reserved rooms at the Days Inn on Alexander Spring Rd. in Carlisle and are hoping for the best!:)

Hi Jim.
It about $135 a night, but for me the inexpensive food and drinks offset the room rate and I don't have to drive anywhere once I get back from the fairground in the evening.

I am on the list at Homeward Suites in Mechanicsburg again this year..it is pricey but the wife likes the place......and.....if our club decides to go to the Museum in Sept 07, then will more than likely skip Carlisle this year and just go to Bowling Green. Hopefully it wont be too hot ...no ac and a big block makes for a hot time in the glass slipper....

Can someone post the details about the Carlisle event? I'm a new-b to the corvette universe and would like to know about all future events. I was at the Kerbeck TFT run and that was fantastic! Here are some pictures of it.
Thanks

Nice pictures!
Welcome to the :CAC, Varoom! I went to grade school in Pine Beach, NJ.
If you want to mingle with thousands of Vettes and vendors, join us. You can find the official info and dates here:
http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/
Many of us stay here: http://www.hiharrisburgwest.com/main.html although there are not many rooms left. Book NOW, you can always cancel later.
Look on my web site for two great pictures of Carlisle taken by one of our CAC pals: http://webpages.charter.net/ggwright/guyspage
Many of us arrive that Thursday afternoon with some who head home on Sun or Monday.
You will read about the "Fun Display." Registration for the Fun Display is about $55 and entitles you to 3 days access with your car and an passenger. Think of the Fun Display as a GIANT cruise-in except it lasts 3 days and is 80 acres with MANY vendors who sell anything from hard to find Vettes parts to socks (and cup holders too ;) ).
Search the Northeast section of the CAC and you will find more pictures and information about "party central" at the Holiday Inn. Many of us CACers park together and have a great time.
Get a room and you will see more of us talking up Carlise after the first of the year.
See you there! Carlisle IS the largest Corvette event in the world!

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess we're talking about the Aug 24th event?
Those panaramas are amazing. Being originally from Staten Island and having an '85 Trans Am stolen right out of my driveway, does everyone feel comfortible parking in a hotel lot? Maybe we should all take shifts of an hour or so keeping an eye on all our cars?;)

Yes - Vettes at Carlisle is always the last full week of August.
I've been going for 6 years and I've never heard of a problem. That's not to say there are NO problems, all the hotels are full of Vette people and many have thier own tailgate parties in the parking lots into the wee hours (no they are not wild and crazy parties) and it's kind of an unwritten rule to look out for each other.
One year on the fairgrounds, some older guy asked a bunch of us if we owned a C4 parked near us, we said no and this person started to open the door (he never got as far as his hand on the handle). He was yelled at and even though all he wanted to do was look at was a trim tag, he got the message, you do not touch other peoples cars period!
I've had problems living in or near large cities, but for me , your question is a non-issue.
The Holiday Inn is also similar to the older motels where it's only 2 floors and the halls are on the outside.
Heck, I had a brand new PU truck stolen from my driveway in Plant City, FL - out in the sticks!

I don't think there's anything to be concerned about in or around Carlisle. All the hotels are full of Corvette people, not thieves.
Last year we stayed at the Hampton Inn Carlisle and the club rate was $159. a nite! OUCH. So this year we decided to drive outside the area and found a very nice Super 8 near Chambersburg for ...........$55.00..........a night! I'd rather drive a little further and spend the savings on Corvette goodies. Oh, and if you have AARP or AAA discount, the room is only $49.50 a night. Includes breakfast, but I don't plan on being at the hotel for breakfast. I'll be watching the sun come up on the fairgrounds as usual. And for Varoom Varoom, as far as safety, I wouldn't worry. I even take my pop up canopy for Carlisle and leave it up on the fairgrounds on the weekend. Some people even leave their chairs and coolers there overnight. Some leave their Corvettes. Hope to meet you.
