Default Door Handle

The passenger side door handle on my '81 seems to have the vinyl "skinned" away from the front edge (if that makes sense). It's pulled back from the narrow end of the handle. I don't see any way to fix it, other than buying new handles. I know they're available, but wondered if anyone had run across this before (and solved it) before I shell out the $120 for door handles!

Are you refering to an exterior door handle or an intertior handle/armrest?
