alignment pin in stock shifter

Does anyone know what the purpose is for the alignment pin in the stock shifter? Do you need it? Is it used by the factory to speed up assembly? Just curious because the bolts that hold the shifter in place seem to be pretty location specific. Any clue?

There can be problems with the shifter alignment. I have seen c4c5specialist recommend adjusting the alignment, and it involves that pin. So the holes must not be quite specific enough, by themselves.

The alignment pin is not used in hurst, kirban, b&m, etc. that more than adequately replace the stock shifter so why is it necessary in the stock one?

I have no idea. Perhaps c4c5 or some other more informed person will comment.

I am very sure it is for the bolts that hold the shifter in place and to the shift rod. The aftermarket do not have the pin as mentioned but I feel it is important.

That is one, although a small one, reason why I went with the C6 Z06 Shifter in my C5.

Before my C6 shifter I did have to perform the shifter alignment procedure with the C5 shifter of course using the alignment pin.
