Distance to Empty Reading

I had my LeMans Blue Met C6 Coupe in the shop the other day for Oil change and a few warranty fixes, and I noticed that when I got it back on Thursday a strange happening......
Usually when I fill up with liquid gold (GAS) the reading on the DIC will display between 400 to around 418 miles on the Distance to Empty setting, well when I filled up yesterday (and according to the gauge it was full) it only ready about 307 miles it's off by about 100 miles, had anyone else experienced this problem? Do you think the computer just needs adjusting?
So here we go again anyone visit back to the dealer......What a royal Pain in the BUTT!!!!

HI there,
Did you reset your fuel economy computer??
This must be reset every time you fill up, as it is constantly running.
If you have dropped your average fuel readings, your distance to empty readings will change.

I've filled that car up dozens of times and I've NEVER EVER had to or have reset anything on the computer....I asked and I was told you DO NOT have to reset it (DTE) everytime you fill up...

Read the manual that came with the car. Whoever told you it doesn't have to be reset - told you wrong.

Yes, please read your owners manual. Do NOT rely on people opinion, the manual has all your instructions needed for your fuel economy computer.

Hey Caddy,

Not much sympathy about your problem so far, lets take a better look. Number one you don't have to reset your average mileage to get a change in maximum driving range. The computer most likely doesn't need adjusting. The dealer may have reset it while making the warranty repairs and/or they may have let it sit and idle for a long period knocking down your average mileage and therefore shorting the driving range. Resetting it every time you fill up is ok if you want to know what each tank is doing but it's not required or needed.

Reading the manual tells you what it does but it says little about how its readings can be affected by cold starts and short trips versus filling up hot and continuing on a long drive which will affect the mileage average.

In your case if you drove from the dealers after they had reset it of allowed it to idle for some time the average and the range would be low, mostly if they reset it. Sometime when you're going to make a cold start, short drive, reset it right away and check your averages when you stop. Then do the same thing when you're on a trip and running all warmed up, reset it and watch your mileage averages increase over the previous cold run.

When the computer calculates the averages it does so for that segment of time and if it's short it amplifies the values based on how it's being driven as it has little to average to. If it is steady warmed up running condition on a long segment of time and distance the averages change very little towards the end of that drive.

While I don't doubt what you say please explain to my why in almost 2 years I have never had to reset it when I've filled up??????? Now you do realize I'm talking about the DTE?

Thanks Dad, I appreciate your input, I didn't think I had to reset the DTE...
But I do appreciate everyone's help in trying to resolve this issue....

i was just getting ready to post the same question. The dealer told me it was "learning" how I drive I filled it up and it says something like 154-180 then to 200 now back to 184. When
