View Full Version : Young Marine Sgt...
This morning I went over to DMV to find out what I needed to do to start the renewal on our vehicles. We've lived in Texas now for a year and our vehicles are starting to come due for registration and inspections....
As I started out the door a Marine Sgt. (in my eyes ... very young) was coming in, I held the door for him and he insisted I exit, as I passed by him I said Thanks Sgt. I was putting the paperwork in the glovebox when I heard a tap on my drivers window...
I looked up to see the Sgt. standing there, I rolled down the window and before I could say anything he said... Thank You Sir for you Service, then did a very smart about face ... I almost lost it.. with tears welling up I said Hey Young Marine... the Same back to you & Thank you..
He must of seen my lic. plates. It ment a lot to me, and I really appreciate our young Men and Women in uniform today. I pray this young Marine and all our military experience the emotions that I felt this morning. I'm tearing up thinking about it..

I do that at each Remembrance Day ceremony (November 11th) in our town square, Bud. I search out an old, tired WWII Vet, proudly wearing all his medals, and stop to speak to him, thank him, tell him we will never forget and shake his hand.
They always respond with great appreciation.

P.S. And thank you for your service, Bud.

That even got to me! :cry
Thanks to the vets!
:pat This is great.....I never pass the chance to shake the hand that fought for my freedom.
I always take a few moments to stop and chat or say hello and give thanks where its due....regardless of what war or time they served....
Take a moment and thank a vet....make their day, they made yours!

Bud,
You met one of this country's finest - thank you both!
Kind of hard to swallow around the lump in my throat right now. I always try to take a moment to speak and say thank you to our service men and women and veterans I meet. And my comments are always greeted with a smile and "You're welcome".
Thanks for sharing this story.

The most touching thing to ever happen to me in uniform came about 5 months ago. I was at a Military Conference in Fla. I was in my uniform and walking to the conference area at a Convention center. Up ahead of me was a woman and two young kids, a little boy and little girl. The boy pointed and asked his mom "Whats that?" towards me. She replied saying "He is a Marine." The little boy stopped, and saluted me. By pure instinct I returned the salute before I even realized I had done it. I bent over and told the boy "Thank you!" The boy just looked at me and said "No! Thank you" and started on his merry little way again. I was shocked that a little boy about 5 or 6 years old could show so much respect for a military member, yet adults could show so little.

Now you got me all teared up!! Good on ya, Bryan!!
At last year's Remembrance Day parade, my son walked proud in his Cadet uniform. I was on the sidelines in civvs. It was a cold, miserable, rainy day. I saw a WWII vet with a cane and an umbrella struggling at a curb; a bit too high for his shuffle. I went over and helped him onto the sidewalk then two of my coworkers (in full Scarlet dress) took over. His smile was like the sun! I guess he figured the Mounties were rescuing him from the nasty looking bald guy. Little did he know!!

My wife and I took the kids and a couple of their friends to the Pacific National Exhibition (http://www.pne.ca/) for the day. The Canadian Armed Forces had a recruiting display, including a couple of light armoured vehicles (a G Wagon and a Coyote) as well as a few other "toys" and there were several CAF personnel walking throughout the fairgrounds. I startled a couple of the boys by walking over, shaking their hands and thanking them for their service to the country. One guy in particular looked rather relieved when I shook his hand. I think he figured I had something else in mind when I walked over to him.
