lost clutch,broken cross shaft mount
Thanks Bud,I think that i have found the problem, but not sure that is a easy fix, At least for me.
where the cross shaft mounts to the frame, it appears there is a rubber bushing and or grommet atop a metal bracket which is affixed by 2 bolts to the frame.
That top piece is either sheared of or broken, meaning the rubber, bracket or both.
Is this a one piece bracket with bushing or seperate.
Either way the crossshaft end (closest to the pedal linkage) has to be attached to the bracket.
Has anyone encountered this? And if so how hard is it to get that cross shaft mounting bracket, and or bushing if that is even what it is called. Dealer item jobber or what.
When you remove the clutch linkage spring you can place the cross shaft end (end away from the clutch) into the bracket where it suppossed to go,but again the end of that bracket appears to be broken,so it would seem to me at least that i need a new bracket, and or bushing.
Again if anyone has changed one of these and knows exactly what it is called and how difficult to change, please let me know, because the way it stands now i cannot move the car at all,no clutch pedal at all free all the way from top to floor, all because of this broken A shaped bracket that supports the cross shaft and linkage to the frame. (where the cross shaft mounts to the frame bracket is also real close to the brake lines design flaw?) Again thanks for your help in advance, Ken Posted this in the L81 forum, wondering if anyone here can help, also, Ken

I think you are saying the ball stud came out of the "A" shaped bracket on the frame side. It is available from any of the corvette suppliers and maybe GM parts dealer. The ball stud has a threaded end that is held secure in the frame bracket.

Mine broke sheared off at the block this past friday on teh way home from a cruise in. Anyone tackled this one before? How hard is it to drill out the broken off part in the block?

That's where mine broke I believe this was in 2000 or 2001 coming down out of Yosemite into Lee Vinning, CA..
I thought of all kinds of ways to get it out... punch and hammer, tac weld on the end of the broken off bolt, drilling it out then easy out.... THEN I stopped by a place called the "Clutch Shop" and asked them ... they said they use a drift punch, hammer and back it out. I asked what they charged and they said removal and installation of the new ball would be an hour labor plus parts ... total came to $81
I figured for $81 I would bypass on the frustrations and have them do it
They got the replacement ball from the local GM Dealership Parts... they also adjusted my clutch

Turned out to be no biggie to fix. The part of the stud still in the block I was able to just use a flat screwdriver and wind it out. New ball stud at NAPA and now back on the road. It kills me that an $8 part can almost cause a car to come home on a tow truck. I had to choose the right route home with only 1 stoplight and I just layed way back from the car in front of me so I wouldn't have to stop. Too bad my garage is a side load, that you have to pull in, back up and then pull in again to get in, so I had to push the car the last bit instead of coasting in.
