My Corvette(s):
Default How much storage room??

Hey ALL!!

I'm driving from Pittsburgh up to Detroit on Wednesday to pick up a newly purchase 95 C4. I have never owned a C4 and it's a convertible.
We are renting a car to take up there and driving the C4 back.

How much room do the wife and I have for luggage of any size? I was told that a convertible doesn't have any at all but I find that hard to believe.

Thanks in advance for ALL your responses.

You will have plenty of room with the top up.Top down soft carry on bags work well.Having traveled a lot with c-4 I found you can stuff more than you think.I'd guess 12 cubic feet with the top down. You'll love it and have a great time. --Steve

I have a 90 vert and with the top up a 16 x 14 x30 in bag will fit.
with top down that 14 in goes down to about 6 in.
You need to lift the back of the top and the cover to get the bag in.

There is not really a lot of room in the storage area of a C4 vert. I would pack light and carry only comfortable clothing and necessities. Use soft side bags so that you can "mold" them into the corners.

I had a 92 vert for 8 years and I had to learn how to be creative when packing for a trip. For me, I usually carried clothing for about three days and used wash facilities at a motel or hotel along the road.

You can forget about carrying coolers, extra shoes, hard luggage and anything over a foot tall. As mentioned, with the top down you only have about 8" of vertical space in the storage compartment. Also luggage will block the sound from the rear speakers so use the fader control to run the front speakers only.

There is a storage compartment behind the passenger seat. Raise the lid and you will see a small plastic tray that can be lifted out. Below that is a compartment that should hold some small things. The radio receiver is in there so you shouldn't use the area for anything that does not like heat.

Loading the car can be fun as you really have to release the rear of the top and raise the decklid to easily get stuff in the compartment. The decklid will stay up but the back of the top won't. I got a piece of 1/2" wood dowel and cut it to 19" long and put a "V" notch at one end. I put the dowl between the deck lid (notch at that end) and the other against the weatherstripping of the top. That holds the top back and made it pretty easy to put big items in the back. I just kept the dowel in the car.
