If you plan on coming for the trip in october, or if you think it might even be a possibility, you NEED to be making reservations to stay there ASAP!! We picked what should be an incredible time of year to go, unforunately this isn't a secret and lot's of other people are thinking the same way as us...this means that rooms are filling up VERY quickly, there's not a whole lot left at Fontana Village so you need to be calling and making reservations if you plan to stay there! This is their peak season and what's available right now won't be available for long!

C'mon and join us, Steve - you and Old Dog too! Though I can't help you with your timing, it is possible to get to MS from TN and to FL from MS, but only on days that end in "Y". ;)

If you took out all the "if's", there wouldn't be anything left! :L

Really though, if you can work things out to make it, it would be nice to have ya!...omg...I just said that big little "if" word too...doh! lol

Kopbet, TotD is short for Tail of the Dragon...sorry for the confusion.

Sorry for the further confusion!

It's a stretch of highway 129 near the Tennessee/North Carolina border. 318 curves in an 11 mile stretch of road...and not just little curves back and forth in the road, the type curves where if you're not careful you'll rear end yourself. It's claimed to be the curviest stretch of road in north america, has no side roads that turn off of it or driveways, although there are a couple of "scenic overlook" type wide spots in the road. The road its self is so crazy that it basically turned into a tourist attraction on it's own for sport bikes, cruisers, motards, sports cars...and just about anything else you can ride too.

Here's a map of the Dragon from Rain's website. It is an incredible road - I drove it for the first time on my CruiseFest trip. The scenery is beautiful and the curves are awesome!

I highly recommend it to any Corvette enthusiast making a trip to the SE US.

BTW... If I can make the trip West next year, I'm going to hit you up for some info about the Oklahoma section of Route 66! ;)

If anyone wants to come along and Fontana Village has filled up, I do have another list of decent local hotels for suggested places to stay at.

Do you start at the north end and finish in the south? Steve

Now i'm confused.Your dealing with someone here who was born with an undersized brain. When we're all done is the nose of the car heading north or south ? Steve

Leaving from Fontana Village in the mornings, we'd start out running it from the south end heading north....once we get to the end of it, turn around and run it in the other direction if we want to after giving the cars (brakes) a chance to sit and cool down, if not we'll find a loop to make somewhere and who knows where we'll end up. I don't think any of us have actually sat down with a map to plot out how or where we'll cruise...and I'm kind of thinking we may or may not ahead of time, possibly getting together with a map friday evening so we can decide on where we want to go. There's an incredible amount of beautiful country and roads to cruise in the area.

Is it clear as mud yet?
