Default My first Jeep project,,, Amen

I was not able to serve in any military function because of the Polio I contracted when I was only one year old, but in my heart, I have always had something for the military, and the vehicles that were used.

I had been searching for quite a few years to find the perfect ( for me ) candidate, and I finally found one. My search criteria was that the vehicle be still in it's original state ( non molested ) and that it be my exact age of 62. What I found was an original 1944 " GPW " that served late in the last World War.

I found in in PA, and will be driving down there in a few weeks to pick it up and haul it home. Here is a picture of my next " for fun " project. Enjoy, I know I will.

What a great toy!! You gonna try to squeeze a 502 into in or are you looking at a serious motor?

Mac, nothing is going to get squeezed into anything. It will be rebuilt as it was during WWII..

These are the plans, and my firm intention is to keep it stock, so I can enjoy it for the excellent vehicle it was.

I have a few contacts for parts and advice when/if required. I've never built a military spec but I knew a few guys who are active in that aspect of the hobby.

We had a jeep in the shop at one time. One of our customers was an ex British Commando that dropped behind the lines on D-Day among many other adventures. He stood looking at it for a minute or 2 before anouncing his old one had a Vickers mounted between the seats. I wished I had taken more time to hear that fellows stories. Trivia: A Vickers belt was 9 yards long, hence the saying, "Give him the whole 9 yards".
