My Corvette(s):
1969 Coupe 350/350 4 sp. Lemans Blue
Default Could this rear end be original?

My 1969 coupe 350/350 4 speed is a numbers matching motor and the transmission matches up from what I've deciphered so far, but the rear end is sort of a mystery.

What is stamped on the housing is "2 CAN 11 5 69 W". This should be a 1970 differential (1969 would be "AN" not "CAN", right?) with 3.55 gears and positraction. From checking indeed it does have Posi. But my question is: Is it possible a 1970 rear was put on my car from the factory because of the strike situation back then which caused the 1969's to run into what was normally 1970 cars?

My VIN ends in 36226 which according to GM numbers means it's build date was late November of 1969.

Or is the VIN on the rear end (like it is on the engine block) stamped somewhere I haven't seen yet so it can be verified that way.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

I believe your car's rear end is correct and original. The three letter code system was introduced sometime (August?) during the '69 model year production.

There's no VIN stamping on the diff. assembly.

Thanks for the information. That's exactly what I was hoping to hear.
