Still Joyriding?
I caught myself driving with no destination yesterday. Just like 25 years ago as much younger man. Gas price, more miles on the odometer, all the stress at home and work doesn't mean a thing when the car, the road and I melt into a Corvette Dream.
That's why I have one of these. I hope everybody remembers this every now and then. Tell 'em you're going on a joyride and watch their face for a chuckle. No, you don't need a psych evaluation, you own a vette!

I find myself looking forward more to the drive then the destination. Hell, I'll even go to the inlaws!

Amen. I even have a 25-30 mile loop I drive... some highway, some twisties, scenic farmland... I always end up back at my house with nothing to show from my trip except less gas and a big smile.

You are not alone! It's a corvette fix we have to have. I actually listen to the weather for the weekends so I can determine how much corvette time I can expect.

How I remember
OH I long for the days when gas was .19 a gallon and fifty cents would let you joy ride half the night away. I know the feeling I even donate my time and vett to take people for job interviews, medical appointments, or just drive to a wood working store. Some times I catch myself after a day of cleaning the vette inviting my wife to go for supper to a place we like about 30 miles away. She rarely refuses my invitation. Thank God for our memories and the freedom to live them out.

Well now it sounds like we are getting back to my first cruisin days in the 60s.
40 years ago at age 17 my first Vette, a 1960. By the way, I think it cost $1700. We would pest our parents for money til we came up with about $2. With that we could cruise all day and hit all the local towns, many times with 3 people in the vette or 5 or 6 people in a friends 55 chev. Later my one buddy got a 64 vert. I don't want to steal the thread but how many of you have ridden under the rear deck in a mid year vert? We used to get 4 in that thing. We are all much bigger now. Couldn't get away with that now days anyway. Yes I still enjoy driving the Vette for no reason. Sometimes the sidepipe car with the radio off and sometimes the 86 with the air and stereo on. Thanks for the thread.

I do, and now that I have two cars again I can go on even more "fun" rides. It is a great feeling to jump into my vette and a mile down the road forget about whatever I might be mad or upset at. What great cars these are.

I know it was a reason to be going but the Fest trip was one really nice long cruize. Other than the downpours south of Indy. The rest of the world was gone. about 2k cruize. Hard to beat.

Joy Riding
Not to date myself, but I remember when gas was cheap, I worked at Sunoco Station with my 69 parked next to the office, guys with the big blocks and hemi's would come in two, three or four times a night to fill up. Getting back to Vette's, none of the Vette's I had were daily drivers, pleasure only, I always had a beater. All I can say is every time I get into a Vette, it's a thrill and driving is fun again. Thats what I do with my Corvette.
Some people like mountain climbing, fishing, boating: I take aimless cruises in my Corvette.

You know, just reading all these replays, reafirms to me, that I'am sane.
Thank You all!
PS. who payed for gas in the late 50's and early 60's? we had midnite auto gas and parts.

Just last night my wife and I were coming back from a meeting in the Vette and I turned on a road that takes us out of town and away from home. She didn't have to ask where we were going she knew - just for a ride!

Wow! You really hit it with this thread. I was doing this last night. I went to a local cruise spot and got tired of sitting and left. I just started driving down a main street and kept going until I felt it was far enough then turned around and headed back. When I got near home and decided it wasn't enough, turn around and head the other way.
I won't feel so alone now as I cruise around with no particular place to go and a good song on the stereo!
