Default Need a hard to find part

I replaced my electric fuel pump ('90 L-98). I damaged the old strainer when removing. When I tried to buy a new one, I discovered they no longer manufacture that part. None of my local dealers have it and gmpartsdirect does not list it either. Can anyone suggest a possible source that may stock hard to find discontinued parts? Has anyone found themselves in the same fix and know of a way to bypass/substitute the strainer?
This is the first time I purchased parts from www.gmpartsdirect.com. My local dealer quoted me a price of $150 + tax for the fuel pump. Delivered price from gmdirect was $57. I'm sure the savings is not that great on all their parts, but just an FYI it doesn't hurt to shop around. My local jobber had a generic replacement pump for $38, but most times they are not a like-for-like replacement.

Default Try this

Here is a response I received when looking for a part.

salvage yards
John -
In response to answers regarding your search for Corvette salvage yards, I live in Streator and am familiar with the operation of vette2vette.
Jason disassembles several Corvettes each year, usually selling larger components like engines, transaxles, interiors, etc on a prior request basis. Then he stockpiles (inside) the rest of the good parts and sells them as people want them.
Jason is a good guy to deal with and his wife, who often answers the phone, is very helpful and knowledgeable.
But, Vette2vette is not actually a salvage yard with cars sitting in it that one can walk around and look at or look for parts. There used to be one called Michigan Corvette Recyclers that also might be within the 250 distance.
Terry

You might try them and good luck with your search. You might do some research to see if the strainer was unique to corvette or if GM used it on other models under a different part number.

Just use a NAPA strainer (pn STS1) and you'll be just fine....

Default fuel pump strainer

I agree with advance auto cc. I just changed the pump on my 1988 L-98.
Napa part #'s NFP STS 1 or BSH N68001 could be the strainer you're searching.

Default Thanks for the help

Thanks for all three responses. Jason @ vette2vette had the exact replacement for $12 (shipped). I have purchased from him previously. He responds immediately to e-mails and ships within one day and his prices are very reasonalble for anyone looking at used parts. I'll stop by the NAPA store today and check out their strainers as well. Thanks again to all.
