get the basic cork gaskets. They only run approx $14 a set and work fine!

I put them on the covers with some gasket adhesive so that they stay on the covers and don't shift around while putting the covers on. I used them on my '65 twice already with not a single leak.
On my '78 I had more cork gaskets on order but already had a set of the expensive (about $36/set) FelPro rubber gaskets laying around my buddy gave me so I used them. Both covers leaked like a sieve!!!
I replaced them with the cork gaskets and not a drop leaked since.

You should be able to get the cork gaskets pretty much anywhere - local auto parts store, GM parts counter, local speed shop, or any of the Corvette vendors such as Paragon, LICS, Dr. Rebuild, etc.

I agree with Barry. Rubber did not work for me. The cork does. I use Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket Sealant Liquid. No leaks.

Barry and Paul...thanks for the suggestion. I'm near Vette Products of Michigan and Paragon, so I'll be paying one of them a visit soon.

I use the rubberized cork gaskets (Fel-Pro # 12869R) about $10 vs. $8 for cork. I glue them to the valve cover and once dry, I lightly oil the other side and install them. Having had many solid lifter engines, it's nice to be able to pull the covers off to set the lifters and not have to replace the gaskets and I've never had a leak.
If you go to VP of Michigan, tell Joe that Jim from Gig Harbor says "Hi". He's a great guy and helped me find some really scarce parts.
