I'm in Freon Heaven now

well, a few weeks back I needed freon for recharging the AC in one of my Vettes. I wanted to have the whole system gone thru and recharged with original R12 rather than convert to R134a.
Only found one shop that had any left and he had 3 or 4 cans still but wanted $75.00 a can. NO WAY!! I finally had a forum member message me and offered five 12oz cans of R12 at a very reasonable price that I appreciated and accepted. Got the AC done and it's working great.

My step brother passed away in the fall and he had a collection of classic Mustangs (3) an early 70's el Camino, and a few other cars some of which had factory A/C and I knew he had been hoarding a good amount of R12 for use when he needed it on his collector cars. My sister-in-law said if we found the freon I could have it at no charge. We looked everywhere and it was nowhere to be found. She thought it must have accidently got thrown out when she had workman come in and start to clear out my stepbrothers warehouse. Since we never found his freon I purchased the R12 cans mentioned above from the forum member.

This morning I got an email from my SIL saying she found one of the R12 cannisters of my stepbrothers and to come over and get it. I figured it a single 12oz can so it would be handy to keep as a spare in case the A/C system even needs a "top-off". I run over this afternoon to pick up the cannister she left out on her front porch for me but when I pulled up to the house the only package on the porch looked WAY too lage to be a 12oz can of R12. Well, it was a bit more than 12oz.........
It turns out it's a big tank like a propane tank still in the box it came in and it's marked as a 30 POUND cannister of R12!!!! : :

I think I have plenty of R12 now to "top off" the system whenever I may need!

Now I just need to make sure that whatever future project cars I buy to work on have A/C in them so I can take advantage of having this hoard of R12.

gee Mark, you think 30lbs would be enough for Thunderchicken? Maybe we need a few more cannisters!

Beleive it or not.. the Thunderchicken need's around 5lbs of R12...I had to replace it several times. Now it's using R134..but she has a leak somewhere and is empty.

Only have to get thru 3 more months and then she goes up for sale. It's Hummer Time...
