Default Big Bend Open Road Run - Fun, Fun, Fun!

Howdy,

The wife and I returned from Ft. Stockton, TX and the BBORR race yesterday and we had a great time.

We drove our new C6 down there Wednesday (540 miles one way), did 8 practice runs on Thursday with max speeds around 122, did a 2 hour road trip, car show and parade on Friday, ran the race route on Satuday (2-way run of 59 miles each) and then drove it home Sunday.

The C6 performed flawlessly!

We entered the 110 MPH class - the fastest class you can enter with stock seat belts. This is the largest class at BBORR - out of 140 entries, 20 were in the 110 class. Classes range from 85 MPH to 150 MPH then Unlimited. The faster you want to go, the more safety features are required.

The locals at Ft. Stockton and Sanderson, TX were wonderful.

Open road runs allow you to run your car at triple digit speeds for miles and miles and really get a feel for what you and it can do. BBORR is a 2-way run of 59 miles each. There are 59 turns in 59 miles - with a few of them in blind cut-throughs.

110 is pretty conservative for a late model Vette. The challenge is hitting your timing to actually average that speed over the total distance. We managed to finish third in class with a MPH difference of only 0.005 MPH. First and second also were off only 0.005 MPH. They had to use the timing to break the tie. We were 0.179 seconds off, second was 0.176 seconds off and the winner in 110 class was 0.168 seconds off - tough class!

Corvettes were, again, the car of choice for this race. Almost 48% of the entrants were in Corvettes. There were 4 2006 Z06's there also.

Tuna,
Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I'm kind of new this forum. Welcome to Open Road Racing, Texas style. That was a nice write up of the event. Glad you had such a good time. It was my 6th Big Bend, third time in the 145 class. My wife ran in 140. Got to warn you; this stuff gets addicting. Maybe I'll see ya at the Roadrunner in October. - C (#99 Corvette)

It is addicting but we limit ourselves to just one Open Road run a year. Wish we have more vacation time and more money!
This was our 5th BBORR since 1999 and in our 4th different car.
We share driving duties as my wife drives the southern route and I do the return route.
BTW, this is a pretty good forum too!

BBORR with 2007 CruiseFest starting at the beginning and ending with Rosco's BBQ.

Never happen! but would be fun anyway you cut it.

Thanks Mr. C's 5

That's like The Gumball Rally only legal and legal totally amazes me! Maybe that's why it is called The Great State Of Texas.

Cool link. Thanks again.

Talk about living vicariously!

Now, I gotta go check out those links.

Edit - WOW! These things are absolutely amazing to me. Wonder If I could organize a straight shot across Alligator Alley?

Naw, too many Blue Hairs

I was thinking of North Carolina 129 - the Dragon's Tail. 318 turns in 11 miles.

Of course, there'd only be one class - UNLIMITED.
