Don't know if it counts but I use to live in Manteno, IL. Just north of Kankakee. Folks still live there. Live now in southern IL in Waterloo, across from St. Louis. My brother lives in Bradley. If you ever get back to the area checkout Rad Rods by Troy in Manteno. Builts some wicked customs. Check out his website: http://www.radrides.com/.

Thats cool!
I know where Manteno is, I may be moving to momence in a year or so and am looking at starting my business possibly there or close to there, that is IF there is enough people who may need a technician to work on their vettes. But I do work on anything so we'll see...
I know it's a bit different then Downers Grove..

Good luck if you do move Rick. I went to my first year of high school in Momence. I have cousins who live in Grant Park which is close. I've been through Downers Grove a few times. My wife's sister lives in Woodridge.
I don't get up there much. If the third airport for Chicago ever goes through it will probably take the family farm which is between Manteno and Peotone.

P.S. I bet you didn't know that at one time Manteno was home to the largest mental hospital in the country. It's now a light industrial complex after releasing all the patients.

Hi Rick,
I also haven't found anyone from Manteno on the net. I'm actually going to the old homestead this weekend to visit the folks. I'm going to try and get over to Troy's and see what he's working on. There are Vettes in the area. There's someone on CAC that lives in Beecher which is about 15 miles northeast of Manteno but right now I can't remember his screen name.

"Baldie88"That would be me. I'm actually in the country closer to Peotone, in the 3rd airport footprint. Wife and I do most of our shopping and stuff in Bradley/Bourbonais area. Go by Troys Rad Rides frequently but never stopped there. Monicals Pizza in Manteno is a frequent stop, tho. Love it out here, can travel some of the country roads and not pass another car. Missed that show last weekend, was it at the sportsmans club? Wish there were more Vette people and activities out this way. Tri-Chevy show in a few weeks and Peotone show later this summer. Mike

Hi Mike,
I actually grew up on a farm right near the Kankakee/Will County boarder. Still have the family farm and it's rented to Hupe Sod Farm It is also in the airport footprint. My Dad was the Superintendent for the Will Co. fair for a number of years. We always went to Beecher for the 4th of July parade. Worked at the old Cardox, then Chemetron plant in Monee for a number of years. Bought my first car at "Trader" Schrader's in Peotone. Understand he finally retired and someone else bought the business. If you go out straight east of Manteno towards Diversatech for about 3 miles there's a blacktop road (1st one to the right after Diversatech). Family farm is to the right about 2 miles. Actually about 1 1/2 miles from the county line. Back in 1969 I had my buddy's GTO to 145mph on that road. :D

Hey Ron, know those back roads pretty well. My hi speed drivin' days are past, tho. Just leisurely cruisin. Nice not having to worry about the "other guy", altho gotta watch for those farm vehicles. Couple weeks ago at night saw some headlights up high, figured it was a tractor. It was, but I didn't see the hugh farm implement being towed behind it taking up most of the 2 lane until I was pretty close. At least I had slowed some, had to go on the shoulder. Was driving the wife's car for which I was thankful. Don't like to drive the Vettes at night back there, want to see what I'm heading into. Look me up if you're up here. Mike

No kidding about the farm equipment... Theresa and I were on the way back from the show and came up on a big tractor, there was clumps of dirt everywhere... had to pass it quick... but other then that not much traffic...

Rick, my parents live right by the club. I can see the back of the lake from their house. I spent many hours there learning to swim and then later checking out the chicks. Did you know the lake is actually an old quarry? They hit an underground spring back in the 40's I think and that's what filled it up. There's still old equipment (locomotive and steamshovel) down in the middle of it. It's actually pretty deep.
Jim B, my one brother who has a Vette has since moved to Springfield, MO but he always thought there should be a club in the area. Good luck if you can get one going.
And Mike, being an old farm boy I learned a long time ago that as soon as you see a tractor or other farm equipment on the road to slow down immediately. Top speed is only about 20mph.
