After owning 3 Corvette's i'm finally going to Carlise this year, and i will be driving my 1981 and Better make it there , every weekend i take it on a smooth 100 mile plus ride back and forth from CT TO MASS to test it out, it seem's okay and does not run hot, after all i had belts, waterpump, hoses and antifreeze changed last month, so i'm going for it!! How many 81'ers are going? Is it great as they say, i want to see a MINT Frost Beige so i can get an idea what mine would look like after i have it painted this summer.

I been thinking about going. Seems like a expensive weekend though. I might head up to a show up in MI instead, supposed to be around 200 vettes

Carlisle is OVERPOWERING. Once you have been their, it's in your blood (IMHO). Here is a link to a friend of mines website for some Carlisle pics..I'm in here a few times..

http://69.253.166.197/page1/page41/page68/page68.html

With sooooo much to do and see, you will have a good time. Hotel costs? Reserve NOW..About $125.00 a night....Last year I went up on Thursday AM and stayed till Sunday at 4:00..We were at the fairgrounds each morning by 6AM....Just an awesome experience....

It's worth the trip.....If u would like to see MORE pics I have dozens more....

Call the Appalachian Trail Motor Inn...It's about 5 miles from the Fairgrounds...an all nite diner is next door. We stayed their last year....Parking lot was fullllllllllllllll of vettes......A reasonable place to sleep....

Also, go to: www.carsatcarlisle.com

Yes, Carlisle can be expensive, but it's a weekend you want to experience at least once in your life!!! You won't believe it! Like Andy said, once you go, it's in your blood. You'll want to do it every year. Many of us do! Book a hotel 10-15 miles from Carlisle, and the prices drop dramatically.

Skip the show in MI -- 200 cars are nothing compared to what you'll see in Carlisle! I hope you plan on going...you won't be sorry!:)

I know everyone loves it, but I cant afford to pay for a hotel right now. Thinking about looking for a camp ground and camp out instead. The other show in MI is not the same weekend, Its just the same distance.

Best Vette show to attend. If you need anything Vette, it's there. I've gone many times and the times I've missed it I've had withdrawl. There's so much to see and not enough time to do it in.

They get THOUSANDS of Vette's there every year. Once you've been you'll be hooked. It's the place I always can find the little hard to find parts you just can't order anymore.

This year will be the first time for me & Mrs. too! We registered for the Fun Field but don't expect us there at sunrise! We're probably more the mid-morning types!
We're looking forward to it but the biggest challenge is going to be getting the wife to travel light - not much space in the back of an '89 vert! (no luggage rack!) It will be a tough choice if it comes down to her luggage or my cleaning stuff! :D

Theirs a campground REAL close to the fairgrounds!!!! Get in touch with the carlisle event staff at www.carsatcarlisle.com (http://www.carsatcarlisle.com..They) They can help u out.

Carlisle is awesome! (This will be my 2nd year).

The view from the top of the hill is spectacular!! THOUSANDS of Vettes and a row of GrandSports (can't remember how many). You'll see things at Carlisle that you probably wouldn't see otherwise. :cool

Happy Vette'ing.

Just a word of advice...there will be virtually no parking spaces in good areas if you wait until mid-morning to arrive!;)

When u arrive early and watch the sun come up over the fairgrouds, it was a surreal experience. We wanted to get pics of the vettes in first light, orthru the early mist...We did get a nice shot or two.

Also, you may want to hook up with a group of folks coming from the Ohio area and caravan in together.......Makes it nice....

Lance...chime on in....

Elaine is right. For the first time attendee's; nobody is pulling your leg and it is not a joke when people tell you the traffic starts backing up at 7:00am. It does, and sometimes earlier. You wait until the spouse drags out of bed, showers, primps for the day, ...etc. and you can end up for hours in traffic just waiting to get in the gates.

And the good parking spaces are LONG GONE by 8:00am in most places. There are plenty of places to eat inside, and most vendors are up and open by 8:00am. It's really nice to wander the show field when the crowds are small. By mid afternoon it's jammed with people.

It may suck getting started that early but you will be glad you did.

Just an old man's opinion............... nut :D

Also, More and more folks are coming on Thursday...vendors are their for the most part...Folks pay to come in and PICK over some good items before the masses open up......I arrived at 10AM last year on that Thursday and wondered why all the people.....

Mid-morning traffic will be like D.C. taffic on a summer Friday afternoon when everyone is trying to get out of town. Last year we made it a point to be at the gate by 0600. I think many others had the same idea:W. It is still worth the trip though. Kind-a like the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. Just that we pay ;worship to corvettes instead.

Elaine, what is the difference between arriving at sunrise? for a "good area" and the spaces available later?

....nevermind! I just read the other responses...I better not tell the wife about the early rise until we are several hours from home on Thursday! Or maybe I'll tell her to get a cab and meet me later!

Very true, but it's not your average traffic jam. There are Corvettes, Corvette "stuff" and Corvette people everywhere you look, and the people are amazingly friendly. I would remind you that the wave is very much alive in Carlisle. Prepare your wrists in advance:w

Went two years ago but didn't get there until Saturday evening. Even so, I saw about all I wanted to by Sunday Evening. Some vendors leave earlier so it'd pay to be early rather than late. If you're looking for used parts there are some good resources here. If you're looking for good deals, I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. Many of the catelogue vendors such as Ecklers, Mid-America, Volunteers, etc are here but didn't discount. However, there were some unusual & interestingvendors (for me anyway) such as tubuar frame guys.; and old racing vettes.
I might go back this year, its a good destination from NC, but I don't really feel like I would fit in with the off-grounds partying and drinking...been there and done that...too much and long ago...so good luck, jim

Jim your'e still welcome for soda's and ice tea. Not everyone are party animals. It's just a great social time at the Holiday Inn and under the (unofficaial) CAC canopy near the NCRS tent..

Hey Andy! Nice shot of your car at the show from yesterday's setup!

I'm just jumping in with you guys to say Hi and that my bride & I will be set up in the Fun Field, so hopefully I can get in early enough on Saturday to see the sun come up. We're staying at the Super 8 in Harrisburg...told the wife about 3-Mile Island...and how I was by there shortly after the meltdown. That's why I am this way...this way...this way...Vette Crazy.

Sounds like a great time. Cya there!

I have been going to Carlisle the past 4 years...The place is amazing. I Take my 88 with me each year and park in the 35th Anniv row ( mines the white one hahaha) You can find almost anything there but just be prepared to drink lots of water due to the lovely NE humidity in August. I just go for the day on Saturday ...Bit of a ride but a nice cruise out there and back. I have to find the CAC tent this year...food aint bad at the fairground either!!!!

Marv..Thanks for the kind words....Still in Deer Camp????

Jim....Medical reasons prevent me from ever "tipping the bottle" Epilespsy since i was a kid..a long time ago........, so don't let that be a deterent, please.....Come on up!!!!!!!....You know, I did find some REAL GOOD deals on Sunday last year..Vendors just don't want to bring things home...Found a nice PAIR of crossed flag emblems...NIB for $50.00. In the catalogs, these are going for $50.00 EACH.....

Thats what I am trying to do, find a SMALL vendor spot..sublease from anyone...here;s my product...
