Default Dash Lights What Now?

A couple months ago, my light switch on the 81 would not turn on the interior lights but all other functions were good. So I decided to correct the problem by replacing the switch. Did it with a new part, but the part was defective and would have caused a dash fire if I had actually installed it without testing it first. Purchased another new one and installed it. Great, now I can turn on the dome light.....but now the dash cluster lights blow the 7.5amp fuse everytime I turn on the lights. I feel like everytime I repair something, I break two more things.....so, I took some time to think about it and only drove the car in the daytime, hate to drive with no dash lights....
Last Sunday I decided to find the problem, so I took the steering wheel off, pulled dash cluster out and guess what, found what was causing the short. The printed circuit behind the cluster is separating and one of the light sockets had part of the printed circuit ripped and two of the wires are touching. I plugged the cluster back in and made sure the wires were not touching and all of a sudden, I had center console lights but no dash lights.
I ordered a new printed circuit and should have it by the weekend. Now I need someones help. How to remove the printed circuit from the dash cluster. I removed all the lights thinking it would just come off, but in the center of the cluster, there's three clips in the cluster with the printed circuit being attached. Is it safe to just pop them out so I can put the new circuit in? I know this is a book.....but just had to share the love I have for my vette.

Default Got Lights?

Just an update, got the old printed circuit out, put the new one on. All lights work, turn signals work, now I can drive without a flashlight at night.....

Glad to hear everything worked out ok, but keep that flashlight handy we never know what will happen next with these 25 + year cars.
Enjoy your ride...
