What do you think of the 2006 Z06 Pace Car?

The 2006 Z06 Corvette has been chosen to pace this year's Daytona 500. What do you think of the paint scheme?

The paint is pretty incredible for what it is - I bet it pops in person a lot more than in photos - maybe someone is headed for Daytona and could report first hand! I think that it is really cool that the pace car has more horsepower than the cup cars - 505 horsepower in a 3100 pound car - versus a 450 or less hp car that weighs 3400 dry and empty! Maybe they should try to qualify it!

So I love the car and the fact it was chosen to be the pace car,But as for the paint,I actually feel it hides the real beuty of this Z06. The fancy paint distracts from the curvy lines of this car.

I think Daytona Sunset Orange Metallic would have been more appropriate. But then, what's in a name?
I also think it should have a skunk stripe to match the driver, if you know what I mean.;)

I love the fact that the Corvette was chosen again to be the Datona Pace Car, but as IH2LOSE mentioned, all the fancy paint detracts from the beautiful lines of the car. LOL, actually it reminds me of some WWI camoflauge the Navy tried out on it's ships.

You're correct - it is a NASCAR regulated, machined insert spacer that fits between the carb and intake manifold and has smaller intake holes drilled in it - it cuts the CFM significantly in an effort to reduce the speeds of the Cup cars on super speedways only (Daytona and Talladega). It also limits the car's ability to accelerate as well requiring several laps for the pack to get up to full speed...about 189 to 191 in a pack.

It isn't just the restrictor plate which cuts the cfm, but the estimates claim a reduction from 725hp to 740hp down to about 400hp to 425hp and they weigh about 3400 pounds. But NASCAR reduces the size CFM carb, the jets, the valance, the angle of the spoiler and the stagger as well to reduce sppeds and create more drag on the super speedways as well...

True racing isn't about horsepower, is it? Anyway, I have to get used to the new pacecar's appearance but with all new cars I think in a shortwhile I will like it very much.

You are very correct that horsepower is not everything, but"true racing" is in the eye of the beholder...power to weight usually defines performance. The Titanic had a lot of horsepower afterall...didn't handle very well either...

it is most likly decals and i will tell you when i get back from Fl. in march. the NASCAR race cars do not use paint but a plastic overlay and not just for the sponsers names the whole car is covered with plastic flim.

The paint scheme is a little too busy for my taste - but the car itself is just flat out beautiful. But when it comes to Corvette pace cars I still think the 78 black and silver was the best.

The paint theme is a shuttle rocket re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere.
Although, haven't seen it in person yet, I like it!
Remember, an actual pace car is meant to be VISIBLE on the track.
