One of our sponsors, WebElectric Products, offers several electronic devices that allow you to personalize a vehicle or improve its safety visibility.

They sell a Dome Light Dimmer product that dims your interior lights slowly after about 20 seconds. The products come in two versions.

The DLD-1 module is for vehicles "where one side of the dome light is connected to +12V, and the other side is switched to ground. This is typical of older cars, and most GM cars that don't have remote entry."

The DLD-2 module is for vehicles "where one side of the dome light is connected to ground, and the other side is switched to +12V. ....many cars with remote entry are wired this way."

I asked the WebElectric Products technical person which module to order for a 2004 Corvette and he told me he didn't have a clue. He advised that I check a wiring diagram of the door switches or the dome light. I don't have a schematic.

Does anybody know which one is correct for a 2004 Corvette? Thanks!!!

Easily solved with a voltmeter or a test light if you have one. Late C4 is switched ground.

Thanks Kopbet. I've got a feeling all later model Vettes are that way but I'm not sure how to tell.

I have both pieces of equipment but am not good at solving or researching electrical issues. I used the test light at one of the rear compartment interior lights since they come on (dome light) when you open a door. With the test light lead grounded, I touched the probe to one of the connector wires and it lit. The other connector wire, of course, had no power and so the test light didn't come on when I touched it. I wasn't sure that I had proven anything except that I had power. If you can add any further clarity to what to do next I sure would be appreciative. Thanks again for responding.

With the doors closed and the interior lights off, remove the bulb from its holder and connect the test light to a known ground and alternately to both sides of the lamp holder or socket. If the ground is switched, 12v will always be present on one side of the lamp socket and the test light will glow when touched to it.

If the 12v was switched, then no 12v should be present when the lamp should be off and the 12v will appear when the door is opened.

KOPBET you saved the day!! The 12v is switched. With the doors and trunk closed and interior lights off, there is no 12v present. When I open a door 12v appears at the housing socket. WebElectric's DVD-2 product appears to be the correct device for 2004 and likely all C5s.

The WebElectric's folks have been most helpful and patient, and now are willing to exchange their device. IMHO, their products really enhance the visibility of the rear of our vehicles when stopping or turning, not to mention they're neat and include a lifetime guarantee to boot!
