(C4) AeroBody fun...

Whew... 2 hrs. later, I have a yellow inspection sticker, rather than a rejection sticker on the car -

Turned out a fog light was burnt out and I had not discovered it before taking it in to the shop...

Anyone ever change out a fog light bulb on an AeroBody?? Should be fairly simple, right

After struggling with it for some time (it would just turn & turn in the socket), I took out the drivers side bulb just to see how it went (more room on that side w/out the horn in the way)
Drivers side popped out in 5 seconds, maybe 6...

Now I went back to the passenger side and tried again...

10 minutes later, still no luck


I tried and tried - the mechanic tried and tried - He finally went back to work on the 2006 Z06 that belongs to a U.S. Senator who recently had aspirations for oval offices

My mechanic handed me a set of angled long nose plies and away I gripped on the bulb.

Finally, after about 2 hrs., it was out - My hands look now like a cat got a hold of them - long claws and all

I walked over to the parts counter at the shop and they said they no longer stock that bulb - ughhh

The inspector said he would fail the car and I could bring it back - all this for a fog light bulb

hen, in an act of mercy, he sifted through the drwawers of his tool cabinet and found a suitable replacement. - Not the exact number, but enough to light up the fog light for time to say it passes -

I am off to buy the right bulb next trip to the parts store (but kept the other one in the socket, just in case).

Anyone else ever have difficulty w/ the fog light sockets on the AeroBody - or was it just mine

It is pretty strict here I need a "Florida Inspection"

...NC might work too

There would otherwise be a lot of foglight related accidents in Virginia. We should thank the state for looking out for us!

Chris, did the bulb housing break from the pliers? It almost looks bubbled/melted.

Yeah, thanks for keeping me so safe VA Bah - foglights...


Bob, the bulb certaily did break apart at the connector when I used the pliers to pull it from the socket. I actually had to unscrew the aero lens socket retainer to pull the bulb - you would have to see it to get an idea of this but let me tell you, the horn was right in the way! And the bracket wore the skin on my hand pretty well
No melting, maybe the reflection along w/ the breakage on the bulb body

John, yes, I am sure they can - I was a bit under pressure though to find a quick-fix, as the guy was ready to reject the car on the spot for the burnt bulb

I generally "pre-inspect" my cars first to avoid any issues - I guess the one time I do not, it bites me

Luigi, every year (used to be every 6 mos back in the 80's) we have to get a safety inspection

On top of that, we also have an emissions test that has to be done every 2 years. Keep in mind though, emissions is part of the state inspection as well

It is good to seek out someone who knows and respects these cars - The first time I took the red B2K to a shop, the guy threw a floor jack under it w/ out regard to the AeroBody and wanted to jack it up that way - I pleaded for him to stop

Now imagine the same guy tossin' around a set of Dymags when he take a wheel off to check brakes and suspensions

I cannot wait for antique tags for these cars! ...three more years

We have the same here every year incl. the emissions test (all are state inspections) But the test is very easy for older car's and with a injection v8 you could just plug out the injection connectors on cilinder 7 and 8 (only during the test) so you would pas without a problem. You would just have your engine pump 25% air to the exhaust without any emissions It's the same thing as using a airpomp, i still don't know why you state allows airpomps because they fake the entire emissions readout! But then again, it isn't my problem anyway

Unfortunately, you can inspect the cars but the most dangerous part, the driver, is not inspected. I think they gave up in Florida because people realized that is the case and got tired of wasting time and paying fees. Oh, well.

This is about all I liked about Maryland. And for the emissions inspection you have no choice over what chucko drives your car up onto the rollers and proceeds to drive it at speed.

The only time I had to take my 1987 in, the chucklehead parked the front wheels on the dyno and got out to strap it down. I asked him what he was doing and told him it was a rear wheel drive car. He sheepishly got back in and said something about thinking only trucks were RWD, and pulled the back up on the rollers. I was glad I chose to sit in the car rather than wait inside and hear about how they launched my car into a wall or something.

Thankfully the car "fast passed" and only had to do about 30 seconds of the test. I suspect the guy hooked up the exhaust thing wrong, as he only put it on one side of the car, but who am I point that out?
