Default 60 - C1 Removing the pitman arm from steering gear assy

ok...I have gotten to the point where I need to discoonect the steering gear assy from the frame....I "think" that I need to remove the Pitman Arm Assy first....before I put a gear puller on it, I think that I need to disconnect the other end of the arm assy...is this right?

it seems to me that if I screw out the ends of the connecting rod ass'y that the point where the pitman arm ball goes in will slide back and come out of the connecting rod assy as shown down below in RED....is this the way to go about it or is there a better way?

You don't need to remove the pitman arm to get the steering gear/column out, and it's almost impossible anyway if the engine is in the car (no room to get a pitman arm puller in position). Just disconnect the drag link from the ball on the end of the pitman arm (disassemble as shown in the diagram) and you can remove the pitman arm on the bench.

thanks John....it worked just fine....the motor is already out...so I have free access to the engine compartment....I am following Noland Adams body lift check list...so I am at the point of getting the steering out of the way.....I am sure as I go there will be other questions...thanks again!!!
