 Drew,
Here is a very good Thread on "Control Valve Adjustment" that might help

Drew,
First, welcome to the CAC. There are so many people here that can help with all of your Vette questions.
How did the adjustment go? If it didn't do the trick, then you may need a new power steering control valve. Sometimes the O-rings will fail and cause the steering to pull to one side.
EDIT* I see you posted a minute before me, and haven't had a chance to do it yet.
Good luck tomorrow.

My 79 wants to "wander" on the highway, I have heard that I need a new power steering valve, but might this procedure (the one Rare81 posted) help me? I am doing other things with the car now when I stumbled onto this thread. TIA, Mark (in the dry "Northwet")

crooner,1st thing I would do is be sure all your steering components(steering box, idler arm ect),is tight with no slop in them before getting another.
the only reason I did mine was it was leaking(old o-rings and seals)..

Nope, the centering procedure won't do anything for "wandering"; first thing to check is the condition of the "carcass" element in your rag joint, then look for play in the steering gear, then all the joints between the pitman arm and the spindles, plus the ball joints.

WOOT!!!!!! This round is one me!!!! 5/8th of a clockwise turn and look ma...no hands!!!!! Did a little steering box adjustment, replaced the vacuum advance pot and added a little timing...things are looking up in Nor Cal!!!! Melissa has agreed to a set of aluminium heads, headers, cam, intake and carb. Now if i can scrounge up a 3.55 or so rear diff and a 2500 stall convertor..we will have a decent beast on our hands!!!!!
Thanks for all the help so far and in the future!!!!
Drew
