I did the swap because I wanted to improve on a 30 year old design. The stock system is really outdated. You turn the wheel, this turn goes through a 13-1 steering box which has play in the recirculatory balls and the pitman shaft, this movement then cuases the control valve to push one way of the other. the control valve interprets this pressure and send fluid to a slave cylinder to push the wheels one way or the other.
The stock system looks cluttered, is prone to leaking and not does follow grooves in the road at times.
Talk about a chain of command.
The jeep box is a new late 90's design and the control spool it right on the input of the box. Turn the wheel and the control valve instantly gets the command to turn. It also prevent back feed from the wheels pushing back up through the box. It is very neet, gone is the long leak prone lines, the control valve and replace with short stationary lines.
Very responsive.
The jeep box in kit form is $675 and steroids is $1249
A steering expert recommended the box over steroids.
