Opinions on buying 05 C6 needed!

Im contemplating getting an 05 Yellow Z51 C6. Heres the thing....

Its an 05 w/ 150 miles on it. The original engine dropped a valve, and the dealership replaced it with a brand new LS2. The original sticker on it was 53K.....the stealership is asking ~$48,400 for it. (Which they say is 1K over invoice.) They are gonna pay off my 02 Z28 which I owe $15,002 on. I am considering putting down ~8K on it. So, the amount financed would be approx. $42,450 with tax and all of that good stuff. They told me Id be around $800 a month....

I am wondering if 1K over invoice would be a good price for an 05 Z51 that has had the engine replaced. Its all warrantied of course. Any opinions on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think its too much. Check out the forum posts. Looks like you can pick up a brand new 05 for less (actually some dealers are already discounting 06s several $thousand). It becomes a non-numbers matching car so the car has a tainted history. IMHO that equals resale/trade-in hit somewhere along the line (you can count on a dealer to try to low ball your trade on this car in the future if the history shows an engine swap). The "over invoice" price argument is a bunch of BS - its not a new car if its been titled. If its used the dealer already made its "over invoice" profit on the original buyer. Even if its new, GM paid for the engine and reimbursed the dealership for the technician's labor.

If you really want that Vette, my suggestion is to negotiate harder. Its your money regardless if its financed or not. Good luck.

I would take a pass for those reasons as well. I think that you can get a better price with some searching.

It's also my opinion that the replacement engine could hinder a sale down the line. It would be an issue that will be such a PITA to explain to any potential buyers. As a buyer, I would personally stay away from a vehicle like that.

150 miles sounds like quite a bit of test driving for someone not to buy it. One of the managers probably drove that thing running errands or something that wasn't too far away from the dealership.

And if you refer to them as the stealership, would you really want to spend your money there?

you should get the 05 for 100-500 over invoice,tops,at this late stage!Dealers out there were discounting 7500 bucks at one point,with no miles.The engine thing should come w/documentation from GM to state what happened and for resale purposes and authenticity,etc.42 grand will in fact be somewhere in the 8xx payment area,depending on your rate and length of finance term,of course.

Some dealers might even offer invoice pricing on new 05s. Maybe not Z51s though.

I am NOT a believer in the 2005 corvette.
Too many problems as a first year car. I had a coupe, then a 'vert. Went back to a 2004 Z06 CE. Check your vin # for the crank-pulley issue as well.

Not all 05s. Models built late in the year don't seem to have those major issues. Example: My vin is far from the ones that suffered the crank-pully bolt, power steering hose, etc. The only problem I had seen is the AVC on the Bose (AudioPilot), which had not worked to my knowledge since I have had the car, until yesterday. I really love my 05, but I would pass on this one too. Just check the VIN, do your homework, and you can get a sweet deal on late 05s.

Too much money for a car that's already "not numbers matching". It's one thing when I blow up the motor of my new car, and another when it comes pre-blown. You can get a real new car for the same price if you shop carefully. Good luck

i bought my c6 z51 with 1271 miles on dec 3 i got it here in GA for 42 500 out the door so 48 is still alittle high

Just my personal opinion, but I think if you have to borrow to buy a car you probably don't need that car... Borrowing should be reserved for important investments (home, education) not for expendables, especially for rapidly depreciating ones like cars. Our country is living on borrowed money (basically stealing from our kids) and too many individuals are following the government's poor example.

I had a dealer offer to order an 06 for $1000 over invoice today.As a matter of fact they had a montery red vert on the floor that they couldn't sell and we're shipping it to another dealer.I'm waiting for the 07's,you can place an order around June 1st. Steve
