My Corvette(s):
1996 Black Coupe - LT4
Default Door does not unlock

This is the aftermath of taking the vette to the chevy dealer... i've had it, and now taking to a corvette place i recently found a couple miles away. My car comes back worse and worse every time.... Laffin Chevrolet, South River, NJ is the absolute worse place to take your Corvette.

Here's whats going.... not to mention other "issues" i am having.

I got the vette back two weeks or so, when i left the car, it "locked" and honked like normal. When i approciated it, it "unlocked" but did not make the same loud/solid click unlock sound i was used to. Like a soft click.

Just yesterday, i noticed when i tried to lock from the inside (using the switch, not the physical lock) the driver door would not lock. just click, click, and the lock did not move. Passenger door worked correctly. So, i'm thinking the doors were never properly locking in the first place.... so i fiddle with it, and push the lock closed. Its locked... now does not unlock using the switch. Now, when i approach with the fob i get a soft click, but the door remains locked. I have to manually put the key into the lock and unlock.

This is so frustrating. Can anyone help?

Default Door unlock

I sounds like the rod between the actuator (an electric solenoid inside the door) and the lock is disengaged. The key mechanism is either part of the lock mechanism or connected with a different rod (I don't know how your model is connected) so the key still works. In any case, remove the door panel and check out the connecting rods - they're about 1/8" diameter with a crook bent into each end. Some are only a few inches long, others are more than a foot long. Sometimes they have retainers but more often only the crook in the end engages the tab on the solenoid or tab on the lock.
Good luck
