Default FINALLY ready (I think) ;-)

After re-purchasing my '84 I realized that the guy treated it pretty much like crap.

Sooooooooooooooo... after replacing the 2 IAC valves, EGR, O2 Sensor, plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotor, valve cover gaskets, water pump, radiator, flushing the system, cleaning out the tb's, replacing the drivers side window switch and detailing the car I THINK it's ready to rock and roll.

Now, if the 21" of rain that we got over the course of the last week would get the h*ll off of the roads I'd take it out and see!

Found some dry roads. It's certainly running a LOT better but... (you knew that was comin' didncha?) I still have a high idle condition. Idles at 900 in drive and it should be at 700. In park the idle moves around as well. Plus it stumbles when it's cold.

No vaccum leaks that I can find, and it's not throwing any codes. Everything I could think of was replaced. I'm wondering if my ECM is goin' belly up.

there is a vacuum line on both TB's in the back. make sure they are connected. if these comes loose idle will shoot up and be erradict.

Spray some carberator cleaner around the intake manifold gasket...see if its leaking. (its the gasket on the right below. You may also need to check and see if your TBI's are balanced. I think I sent you this link already. http://www.corvettefever.com/techarticles/4688/

Didn't get the mail but I already checked that Jon. The TBs are balanced and I can't find any manifold leaks. Dang thing's gonna drive me crazier than Nancy does. But at least I'm confident that I'll figure the car out!

Thanks Jon,

Linkage looks ok and I lubed it.

Didn't check the timing (on my "to do" list)

O2 Sensor replaced and I'm positive that it's good.

Thermostat replaced, new 180dF. Figured as long as I was doing the radiator and water pump I may as well do a new therm.

IAC's replaced

Didn't check the gererator but the dash reads right.

Replaced the EGR but didn't check it - added to the "to do" list

TB's cleaned and rebalanced.

Doesn't seem to be rich but dunno. (to do list)

Rough idle only happens when cold, when it warms up it idles fine, only 200 rpm higher than it should.

Gotta find out how to check the Evap system (which is one reason I'm tryin' to get the shop manuals)

Spark gap's right (just did it)

Didn't do a compression check (add another one to the "to do" list)

Thanks again, tha's a big help!

Have you checked the Throttle Position Sensor to see if it's within spec?

I think I remember reading that the 84's are notorious for rough idle when cold. Might just be the nature of the beast. Mine is also a little rough until warmed up but then runs smoothly.

Actually Steve, mine sounds like it is making popcorn out the exhaust when cold...then it mellows right out when it hits operating temp.

Nope, didn't check that. Will add it to the "to do" list. Trying desperately to find a shop manual.... Got all winter though.
