Default windshield damage

Was cruising the interstate sunday afternoon when some idiot threw someting off the overpass. It hit squarely in the middle of the windshield. Luckliy same did not crack or break. Scared the P--- out of the wife and I. Do not know what it was but squarish and white. Bottom line I now have several white lines seeming ground into the glass., Elbow grease with window cleaner has done no good. Does glass need to be replaced or can a good glass shop polish this out. Thanks for the advice. p.s sent the pants to the dry cleaners

sorry to here that, but I think you need to show us a pic.

you would think you could buff it out.

Depending on the depth of the scratches, a good glass polisher can probably remove them. You'd be better off taking the Vette to the expert and letting them assess the situation, unless you wanna buy that glass polishing kit and try it yourself.

I had a similiar issue. I was on the highway and a truck kicked up a rock.... it hit the windshield, but did not break it. It did produce a white mark on the windshield. It was smooth to the touch, but the mark was noticable. I took it to three glass shops and no one would touch it. They said the windshield would be fine and it was not worth installing a new windshield. They also all agreed it would not polish or buff out.

This was almost one year ago and no problems. The mark was actually on the tinted portion of the windshield, so I used a black marker and lightly covered the mark. Now unless you are looking for it you can't even see it.

Sorry to hear of that happening.

If you feel someone intentionally threw an object off of the overpass, I’d let the police know about it so they are aware of that happening in the area.

Default Glass marks

Years ago I bought a work car and it had white arcs in the windshield from the wipers. At work we polished samples for microscope photos and some of the samples were very hard so we used a paste of resin and diamond dust. Worked like a charm on the white marks although there was still some aberation from the original grooving. Got through safety inspection with no questions.
The diamond paste probably cost many times what a new windshield cost but I didn't have to worry about leaks, etc, and the polish was quick.
Places like Edmund Scientific used to sell the polish but I don't know if they're still in business. You'll need some polish with really hard particles (very fine too) in order to affect the glass but it can be done.
