My Corvette(s):
1996 Torch Red LT1 Coupe
Default Vette Mag trying to copy me

The newest issue of Vette magazine is doing a performance build on an LT1 engine, so I made sure to pick it up. And what do I see, they are using almost the exact same setup that I'm currently assembling. They built a 410 HP 441 Tq motor with the exact same cam as mine the XE 501, 1.6 rr's, long tube headers, and the Accel Superram. The only thing that isn't already in the closet waiting to be installed or on order, is the Superram. To be honest I didn't even know that you can use the TPI SR on the LT1.

Now the disclaimer, those numbers were on an engine dyno, not a chasis dyno, and it was with 3" open tube exhaust with no cats. But by my calculations this setup should get my car into the 12's without nitrous, and maybe the 11's with juice.

Hey Bob, start pricing out a Accel SR manifold and plenum for my car please.

Greg

You mean the Super Ram intake will outflow an LT1 style intake?

Good question, Edmond! My thought exactly!

Wonder what the answer is.

The issue is the runner length. The LT1 runner are roughly 6" long which is great for HP but will limit the amount of torque. The L98 runners are in the 30" range, and produce monster torque but limit the HP. The Accel SR is the happy medium with runner length in the 16" range. This lets you build more torque than an LT1 but not fall on it's face like an L98.

I understand the issue with the runner length. But I'm still finding it hard to believe that a SR would outflow an LT1 intake, which is pretty much the same as a Mini Ram.

I've read numerous times of people suggesting the MR for the 6 speed while they suggest the SR for the 4 speed.
