I’m pleased to announce that arrangements are being made for Corvette Action Center group parking at Corvette FunFest 2006 hosted by Mid America Motorworks on September 15th, 16th, and 17th at their corporate headquarters in Effingham, IL.

If you have not been to FunFest, you don’t know what you’re missing. Mike Yager and gang put on a great show. Check out the link below to their web sight for a recap of FunFest 2005.

http://www.madvet.com/-/shop?category=1.299

If you plan to attend, I suggest that you make your hotel reservation ASAP. This is a massive event. Area hotels will fill up fast.

Group parking will add to the fun by allowing you to meet some of your follow CAC members face-to-face. To sign-up for CAC group parking, simply post a reply in this thread stating your intention to do so.

I hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,
John G.

Thanks. The only problem is that I'm not sure how to keep the thread visible enough for the next 11 months to insure that potentially interrest members will see it. Any suggestions? ;shrug

Hi John -

I think it is best to start the thread up a couple of months before the event, then we can make up dash cards and get a good count for the Yeagers.

Probably not a great need for the number right away - as we will likely be in the same field as most of the CAC wound up this year (I was in the CF field, but proudly displayed my CAC dash card....

The purpose of starting the thread now is to make the membership aware of the CAC presence at FunFest while is still easy to make reservations for next year. Area hotels fill up fast so I reccommend booking a room asap.

Several of us already have reservations at Super 8 just off highway 70 at the highway 32/33 exit. This is the exit where you'll find Friday's, Wal-mart, ect. If anyone would like to join us, please do so.

I have to provide Mid America with a final count one month prior to FunFest. That is when they finalize the layout. Therefore, the deadline to signup for CAC parking will be around Aug 14th 2006.

All,

I will eventually need to determine a reasonably accurate count based on this thread. Please clearly indicate somewhere in your post that you want to be included in CAC group parking. If you would also vote yes in the attached pole we will have a running count of participants.

Thanks,
John G.

Roger is already for the chrome wheels. I think he's sorry we didn't get them this year. Going to try and work a deal with our parts manager so that we can get some sort of a credit for ours. Roger wanted them now but because we are only driving until October 31st might as well wait until next spring.

I'm usually not a big fan of chrome wheels, but I'd have to agree that they do look very good on yellow vettes.

Your packed already? I guess we can try to ignore that musty smell your cloths will have after ten months in the suitcase. Hope the socks were clean when you them in.
;LOL

I typically spend days or weeks cleaning and/or making improvements to one of the cars prior to FunFest. Packing is strictly a last minute thing for me. Usually do it right after I load the cleaning supplies into the car.

I voted YES. Right now, I can say that I'll plan on attending. However, I'll have to see what finances are like a year from now. Especially since this is only 2 months after CruiseFest 2006. Plus with my new car payment, funds are gonna be tight for the next, ohhh...5 years!!!

As for keeping the thread alive, once the time gets closer, any of the Admins can pin it to the top of the forum so it's always at the top, regardless of last time posted.

I hope you can make it. You might want to make your room reservation now. It will be a pain to find something open later on. You can always cancel or pass it along to someone else if you have to back out. Some of us are staying at the Super 8 one exit west of Mid America on I70. I'll send you a PM with their number in case your interested.

I am not a happy hotel camper right now anyway , we drove 11 hours last week to find that a hotel had given our room away that we reserved weeks before , and to make it worse , I called them the day before we left and the confirmed that we had our room waiting on us....grrrrrr..

Probably be a good thing if you called this time , hahahaha ..

Linda called the hotel this morning and confirmed that they do have our reservation. They gave her the confirmation number over the phone. Maybe they didn't send out confirmation letters this year. Anyway, I've stayed at this hotel every year for a long time and I've never had any problems.

Don't sweat it. If they lose your reservation you can sleep in my bathtub.:upthumbs

You park with them in the area reserved for CAC. Otherwise, it's very difficult to find anyone. For example, my dad showed up at FunFest looking for me last year and we never found each other. I didn't know he'd been there until he called me a week or two later.

The size of this event is why club parking was a must do this year. Otherwise, it's too difficult to find each other.

If this years layout is similar to the previous two, we should be parked near the area that cj5nutz pointed out in the photo above.

Heaven forbid they book a band that might actually make you want to get out of your seat! Don't want to throw that back out or slip a disc! And it's not the like Corvette is the smoothest driving vehicle out there! Can't have ya driving all doped up on your vics and percs!

As I understand , they had the 4 Tops booked first. I don't know who cancelled who .

At my age foot tapping is about as good as it gets without risking injury. :L

Second , if he was worthy to drive the Vette he would not schedule a wedding on Funfest weekend.

I agree. Anyone that sets themself up with an anniversary that conflicts with FunFest doesn't deserve a Vette. He'll have to get a divorce if he ever wants to attend. At least, that's the advice I gave the last guy that used his anniversary as an excuse for not being there. If he likes Vette's you better tell him to change the date or the marriage is doomed from day one.

Can you tell that :v. :L

Please help me make sure that everyone you know who plans to attend Fun-Fest is aware of this thread so that we can include them in our group. The approximate count at this point is around 20 cars.

Hey CAC,

The entire Mid America Motorworks team looks forward to you joining us this September. As mentioned in a previous post, a lot has changed since last year. This year’s show will feature a different layout and will utilize a different location on our campus. We encourage all to get hotel rooms now if you have not booked them. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email or my cell phone.

In addition to the weekend, we do have a few limited spaces left for our black tie art reception Friday night at the Yager house that are $100.00 per person and proceeds will benefit charity. The reception will feature several artists as well as a special car show. Please call 1-800-500-1500 or get in contact with me for more information.

Lastly, REO Speedwagon will be playing Saturday night as well as another special band that will be playing pre REO. We encourage our guest to arrive early in order to get “better” seats. In addition, beer will be sold the night of the concert and will follow our low cost pricing of all of our food and beverages during the weekend.

I as well as the rest of our team look forward to entertaining you!

Cheers,

Michael D. Yager Jr.

I did a little checking, Scott, and it seems as an Inter-Agency courtesy, the Warren, Michigan (http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86781) Police Department sent the following "Be On Look Out" (BOLO) alert to the Illinois State Highway Patrol:

Be advised of garish yellow 2000 Convertible Corvette. Driver is an attention-seeking adult adolescent, possibly as a result of arrested development (full psychological profile forthcoming, but it'll be a doozy). Recently pulled over for reckless driving and dangerously excessive speed in front of a police station, so some question remains as to his "smarts." Reportedly headed to Effingham, IL, to seek moral support from fellow owners of garish yellow cars. Suggest Driver may need "a hug" before being cuffed and stuffed.

I guess some reputations really do precede people. :L

Dwayne,
Scientific studies have shown that this part of the parking lot is clearly the most uncomfortable to be physically situated in, as all that yellow reflects back so much heat. Estimates have it that the ambient temperature around this part of the parking lot is 20 degrees hotter than elsewhere in the vicinity. Funfest really ought to give some considerating to hiding all that yellow, as it now appears likely having all that yellow concentrated in one place may contribute to global warming.

Limited rooms are available to CAC members at Super 8 Motel at exit 159 (hwy. 32/33 exit). This is just 2 miles (approx.) from the site. I just spoke to General Manager Anthony Shimboff (217-342-6888) and he said that for the general public, he's full, but for CAC, he's got a small number of rooms avail. for Fri. and Sat. evenings. My price was $93.99 per night for queen - nonsmoking. Concerning the price, he said most hotels are over $110 / nt. for the weekend...if you can find anything. I asked permission to post this availability, which he gave, so tell him you're with the corvette group and saw this post from Steve Conn of Memphis.

I hope this helps.

Can anyone give me some pointers on the car show judging event on Sat. at Funfest?

I'd like to enter my '96 LT4 coupe (factory original) but I don't know the level of competition for what they're calling a "fun" contest. I've got a laminated build sheet and the original window sticker, and at 28k, the car is quite clean, but is this a concours-type competition? Do I need to wrap the car in plastic and bring it on a trailer?

Has anyone had experience with this particular judging event?

Thanks.

It's just a casual celebrity judging. There are no categories or official judging criteria. Each just picks a car they like. It's usually the cars that stand out in some fashion. I wouldn't spend much time worrying about it.

I want to put out a BIG "THANK YOU" to John Grawcock and his lovely wife, Linda, for being such hospitable folks at the CAC Parking Area.

John, thank you very much for organizing the parking. Thanks for starting the thread and thanks for your unbridled enthusiasm.

Scott, thanks very much for purchasing and making sure the tent was put up. The shade it gave all of us was very much appreciated!

I believe this was the best show, yet! I only missed the first 2.

SAVE THE :w

Thanks to all who came out for FunFest 2006. We particularly had a strong turn-out on Saturday. The day was so full of activity it just flew by. It's always fun to see old friends and make new ones. :grouphug:

Now who's up for next year?:J
John.....me, for one. Thanks for your dilligence in setting up everything, including the nice tent, and all the coordination on the thread. This was my first FF and I was like a kid in a candy store. Besides the exhibits, I got to meet you and your wife, LT4Man, CJ5Nutz, 6Shooter, and others. Not enough time....not enough time. Next year, I'm coming in on Thursday night in order to hit the ground running on Friday morning.

The tent was a great gathering point for the group. I drove back to Memphis thinking about kind of a tailgating type thing next year. Maybe I can arrange a support van with more chairs and at least a huge cooler for drinks. I thought about a grill but the organizers might frown on alternatives to the food vendors.

I went to the REO concert Sat. night but after a couple of beers and a very long day, I left around 9:15 pm. I was staying 30 mi. south in Salem, and so didn't come back for Sunday.

I'm going to make reservations for next year now. Did you say that you stay at the Super 8 at exit 159?

I'm glad you had a good time. All the credit goes to Mid America for putting on a great event. They make it pretty easy to set up club parking. All I had to do was get the word out to the members and then tell Mid America how many parking spaces we needed. Thanks go to Cj5nutz and his wife Suzy for providing the tent.

The problem with a support van is that it would have to be parked in the "sheet metal cars" parking area a long way from our spot. I think coolers are OK, but a grill would probably not be allowed due to fire hazard.

We stay at the Super 8 one exit west of Mid America. This is the highway 32/33 exit. I'm not sure of the exit number but, the phone # is given in one of the earlier post in this thread.

Hey John......I was scanning the threads last night and ran through the buildup to FunFest last year. Thanks to your efforts (and MidAmerica's) FF was a great experience last year for a first-corvette owner. I'm coming up from Memphis on Thurs. am this year....maybe Wed. night if I get too anxious. Put me on a list to help with the tent or anything else you think you might need.

Is it too soon to start an '07 FunFest thread for CAC members?

Dawn and I sure enjoyed meeting everyone last year. If at all possible we will be down again. Even though the distance is not an issue our schedules are crazy!:)

I got my room today too. Last year I had to stay 40 miles south of the site because I didn't make reservations until late. No fun.

John, that parking area last year was really nice.....front row and close to the exhibit area. Is that your thinking for '07?
