Replacing my interior? Who to choose?
Looks like a project this winter is to definately replace the seats and carpeting in my '79. Looks like all the aftermarket guys have interiors, and the prices are similar. Not sure If I am going to do this myself or not. The seats, I would probably farm out, but to whom. Also, the carpet in my '79 is almost a doeskin color, and with oyster white seats and dash, it just doesn't look right....I believe the previous owner put in the wrong color!! I checked out the manuals and it appears that the correct color is either a light or dark gray, similar to the '78 pace cars sceme. Would appreciate ANY advice on who to use, problems encountered, costs etc. Thanks folks!!
Andy

Hi andy,
Am going through similar quandry down here in florida. I am not sure of your other intentions, but I am having my car painted and the interior (as well as engine re-done) . First thing i learned: dont do the interior before you paint, apparently no matter how hard the painter tries you will get some spray on the interior at least thats what I was told. I did have a guy who was referred to me do the seats (as they can be removed before painting). I had the seats farmed out due to my lack of patience ( i have heard that the seats can be a true pain to put on, but have also heard from others that it is easy....(?) believe whichever you are inclined) I paid about 200$ and they turned out real nice (tight, no sags or tears). As far as color goes I did not research what the car came with, I went with what I wanted- dark red/burgundy exterior with light saddle interior. I got the car with a faded red (hugger orange(?)) exterior and vinyl red interior- i doubt it was original like that but it was too much red for me.
Sorry about the long response, take care good luck and post pics when you get it done
mike

Andy,
Al Knock is one of THE names for Vette interiors: http://www.alknochinteriors.com/welcome.htm
They will be at Fall Carlisle. I bought pre-mounted cushions for one of my 82's from Ecklers who farmed my order out to Corvette America and I HATED them! The foam was not "pre-crushed" (I think that's the term), therefore, hard as a rock.

I bought mine from Willcox Corvette at willcox@bellsouth.net. Best price best quality. Get yourself the seat covers already on foam. They are real easy to install.

i wholeheartedly agree with jim about wilcox and their committment to customer service. that said, you should be aware that i believe with the exception of al knoch who does custom type stuff, all of the interiors that are available regardless of who you buy them from are made by corvette america. while i haven't used them, there are many here who swear by the last detail also.

Not so!
And I can easily clear up any confusion in the above statement.
The "Al Knoch Interior Company" has been in business for over 40 years and unlike most we do make our own products. Also, we are considered by most as the leaders of the industry in exact reproduction and quality in the manufacturing of Corvette interiors. As to a NCRS quality interior, nearly all of the Bloomington Gold class of Vettes are sporting our interiors.

Afternoon...
I am looking to replace the carpet in my '79. It currently is sporting a doeskin colored interior (carpet) only which looks out of place. I believe the correct color for an oyster white leather interior was gray..much like the scheme for the '78 pace car. I am looking to replace the Oyster white leather seats, new foam etc..I believe 4"bolsters. Can u help with a price??? Would appreciate. Wouldn't be doing for a few months, but just need to find out where to turn. Also, for the seats, Can I ship them to you to be done????
Thanks,
Andy

Hello Andy,
In reference and respect to the good people that run this great forum in mind, I will withhold an answer to your post on any details. However, you may use my personal site at http://www.nitroalley.net to contact me by E Mail for the special forum prices I can make available to you as a member and fellow Vette owner.
yours truly,
Wally Knoch

Andy - I don't know if it's worth the trip for you, but I think you can order and arrange to pick up your items at Fall Carlisle.
Wally - I was the guy selling Corvette cup holders across from you in Stepinwolf's space at Carlisle last month. Al brought over a nice tray of hordevoures one morning .
Good luck, Andy,

Guy

Just finish re-carpeted my 81, used carpet from Mid-America; spec'd OEM color. Fit was excellent with minor edge trim & installed pre-assembled storage door assy from Corvette Mike. My first attempt at carpet replacement came out great, I am very happy with quality of carpet and the finished job.
