Default 63 Restro Update....

Just got off the phone with the shop...the rear end, and suspension has been put back into the car. The fiberglass floor boards were painted black by several previous owners, we have removed several coats of black paint off the underbody fiberglass and restored it back to its original tan/biege fiberglass color. It looks much better. The differential looks great...showed photos earlier, and the Yokes are new and bare metal like they should be. The proper tags are installed n the differential and the correct metal tag was put on to denote a 3:70 gear ratio. I got new NOS 63 half shafts, both that and drive shaft were balanced and the spindle flanges are secured with the correct bolts (phosporos black). All the other hardware, U bolts etc. have been replace with new correct hardware. Strut rod Assembly is NOS 63 stock, it was replaced because the one on the car was CHROMED...the strut rod braket is semi gloss black, with cadmium plated hardware. Adjustment cam bolt is black phosphate and all of the bolts and washers were replaced with the correct type. Trailing arms were removed and found the drivers side arm was bent, so it was replaced with the 63 arm, they were in really ugly shape, glass beaded and painted them semi gloss black and they look brand new...again all new hardware etc...every piece was done correctly.

Shocks, already had Delcos, just removed the modern decal, they look really good, and of course all the support shock hardware was removed, stripped, repainted or cleaned...so everything looks new.

My drums were actually chrome at one time and we found the front break drums were slightly undersized, so ALL the drums have been replaced with new ones. The rear spring is BRAND NEW and correctly done in light gray.

New brake cables were installed, with new mounting hardware, and the emergency brake assembly was stripped and painted per specs.

Got a chassis kit and stencil and did all the markings on the frame and the suspension components, rear differential, shims etc. So we got all that done.

Still to do...entire front suspension, which is going to be tricky, most of the suspension components have been removed, beaded, painted or left bare per specs. Reinstall the steering linkage, restored complete linkage.

Putting in new DEWITT Radiator, dated per build date of car install complete cooling system. Repainted the fan shroud.

Redid the horns, one was slightly bent, its fixed

Heater box, fan, and heater coil, make sure heater works

Final assmebly of the motor, fuel pump, pullies, starter, distributor, fan, fan clutch ...etc. and then the tune up..

Fix the directions to shut off when wheel is straightened out

Glove box sticks and light does not go on

Fuel gauge not reading properly always shows half full

Remove am/fm radio and install the Wonderbar Radio

Install correct carpet in the front, clean and repaint the under seat wells

Get an alignment new oil and fluids, and tune up...

Estimated date to finish...July 27......so we still got a ways to go and a lot of things must happen, but it looks good at this point...so say a few prayers I really want this to end....and get my car back before winter comes

I blame it all on you guys here. You introduced me to NCRS and their Judging Manuals, plus the other books you recommended, and I have "studied" these books cover to cover. As a result, my "to do" lists seem to grow. You guys on this board are the most valuable resource one could ask for, as people like yourself, SWCDUKE, JohnWiz, Crisler, and so all the others who have given me the ambition, patience, and support to conintue on, based on the knowledge shared here. My only hope is you will come by and see me (meet me) at Carlisle and Efingham (Funfest). I plan to have the car there....if you don't give me any more ideas....

All you guys are great, especially Barry and Andy (our Canuc friend) who keep me on the straight and narrow. I just hope after all this work, its done as correct as possible....Again thanks to all...

Looks like you have the restoration project in high gear. I can't wait for 2005 Carlisle Corvette show; there will be many great people, stories and Corvettes. Looking forward to seeing your 63 SWC and yes, the NCRS Tech Manual and Judging Guide has cost me a few pennies.

I don't know how you guys keep up this pace Collin! After all your travelling and being away so much then returning home to tackle all this by the end of July! You and Larry are quite something after you set your goal, nothing seems to deter you guys. Hope everything goes as smooth as possible for you this month and we are all looking forward to meeting you guys and seeing these wonderful cars at Carlisle. Cheers until then

Doug,

No sleep....

Just want to finish this thing,,,, get it over with and behind me. But I do know I will always be working on some aspect of the car. Just want this part (the major restoration) to be finished, and like any job, the quicker you dive into it and work on it, the quicker its finished....

Cool down that beer....save a blue for me AAAYYY...

That's probably more true than even you'd like to admit some nights right? It will be nice to reach that major point real soon but I hope you do get to enjoy driving it real soon. I'll bring you Canadian beer at Carlisle (Or moose pee as Tom calls it) and try my best to keep it cold for ya eh! Take care Collin and see you soon.

Drink them fast or they'll go bad! You're going to blow my cover as I've been telling my wife for years beer only has a shelf life of two weeks so that's my excuse for a case not sitting around here too long. Are you finishing the truck first or getting into the '59 full throttle or going to do the unthinkable...two at once?
